Seven weeks from now I will be bound for Orlando, for a week of all out blissful geekitude. Star Wars, Harry Potter... doesn't get much better! The HP park at Universal looks fantastic. I'm terrified about how much I'll be tempted to spend there.
C5: Much as I adore The Daily Show (even if I haven't watched it in months), I'm not jumping up and down with excitement over the big Jon Stewart/George Lucas interview just yet. The January GL TDS interview confirmed my suspicion that JS is a total OT fanboy, to the point of trying to convince his TPM-loving son that TPM wasn't his favorite. (FAIL, Jon, FAIL. You're lucky I consider you funny and brilliant otherwise.) On the other hand: the negativity wasn't dwelled upon, JS respects GL, GL always gave as good as he got (and had a sense of humor), and he and Stewart do have a good, jovial rapport. Even if Stewart spends the entire time railing about the PT - which I doubt he will - it's not like the pro-PT/saga side of the fence isn't going to be well-represented. GL is clearly proud of his work on both trilogies and TCW and is quick to point out that each new incarnation of the saga has its devoted fans.
If nothing else, Stewart's appearance appears to be just the impetus my sister needed to commit to going! :D Looks like she and her roommate both want to come now (as much for the HP park as Stewart), and if that's the case, not only will that make the drive to Orlando much easier, we'll have a nicer car to do it in in. SWEET!
If anything, I'm more rankled on the C5 front about the lack of any apparent programming except collectors' panels. I expect that to change in the coming months - there's been absolutely no mention of any TCW programming or guests yet, and with the show doing so well and the third season about to premiere, I fully expect to see a decent dose of TCW programming. Which, frankly, interests me a lot more than the TESB retrospective stuff. I love TESB, but the excessive fawning over it bores me. I dearly wish there was more of an interest in fan-oriented/academic panels like at Harry Potter conventions, and I'm hoping that some eventually do pop up and they're just promoting the collectors' ones now because they think those'll be a bigger draw. (I'm not convinced, but I'll be glad to be wrong.)
Even if the whole thing ends up sucking (which I doubt) - if absolutely nothing else, CV is going to be the chance to indulge in flagrant RL geekery unhindered, to spend time with people I haven't seen in years. Those have by far been the best parts of past Celebrations for me, and that alone is going to make the trip well worth it.
