RL roundup

-- Wow, a lot of the female SW fans (and several of the Twilight ones too) on my f-list feel strongly about that "Twilight = Girl!SW?" thing. I got more response from my off-hand comment to that issue than the CW episode discussion!

-- Stumbled across a free Tetris game for Mac. Fuck, there goes all my motivation for anything else. Despite my lousy spatial recognition, I still rock the shit out of this game. :D

-- The worst of the pneumonia appears to be long gone. All that seems to linger is just a bit of a cough and the desire to never have another sip of VitaminWater as long as I live. Urgh. I spent the better part of NINE DAYS holed up in my bedroom. God, I really started to hate it. Last Sunday night I ran out to get a coffee just so I could see something besides my four-walled coffin. I didn't really start to feel like myself at work again until about Wednesday.

-- Little sister is finally going to escape her ridiculous job! Okay, on the surface it looks like she's just schlepping coffee at one place instead of another. But at least at Starbucks she'll have stable work hours, better benefits, and - perhaps most important - she will never, never have to run a café for a 10-hour shift by herself. The job more or less fell in her lap: someone from Starbucks came into the Borders café and were evidently just super-impressed with how competent little sis was, and talked her up to their manager. So the manager calls her in for an interview, which basically amounts to "when can you start?" :)

-- Mom has decided she's taking me to Mexico next month for some time off to unwind and a chance to get some of my dental work done. I've told her how absolutely piss-broke I am, but she insists on going down there for a week and a half, and paying for the bulk of the expenses. Wow. Hard to turn that down. And this time, when I'm on the beach, you can bet I'm taking a bath in sunscreen first. *facepalm*

-- In the interests of trying to get out more, I've joined a monthly book club. We'll see how it pans out. Fortunately for me, the book they're reading this month is The Time Traveler's Wife, which I already have thanks to picking it up at a book fair some time back, so I won't need to slog out to the library or drop money at B & N for it. I'm also debating trying to get back into that local Unitarian church, since it looks like the young adults' group may have started up again.

-- My workplace resembles not so much an office as a CDC testing facility. I was out with pneumonia for a week, another lady was out for eight days with flu, another was out for almost a week with same, our boss was out this week with an upper respiratory infection, and now we've just found out another coworker's been exposed to hepatitis. o_O It's been a few days, and haven't felt any signs, so I'm hoping the danger has passed.

-- Thanksgiving is shaping up to be... confusing, in the typical manner of a child of divorced parents. First, both Mom/Jim and Dad/Janet were simply going out to eat, no cooking at home. Now, D/J have decided they are doing dinner at home, since it looks like some of her kids will make it after all. Mom, after hearing how much my sister and I love the leftovers part of Thanksgiving, decided she'd do dinner at home if my sister and I helped. Now, she's back to the restaurant thing, just hitting a buffet somewhere. Regardless of what the final arrangements are, I still have both Thursday and Friday off and my sister will make homemade pecan pie. Woo!

-- It's started to hit me that this is going to be the first holiday season I'll have without Grandpa. It's doubly bittersweet because Thanksgiving was the last meal he, my sister, and me spent together, and the last time my sister really saw him.
