You win some, you lose some...

Grrr. I wasn't really expecting to have two snow days in a row, but I'd hoped we'd at least be getting a two-hour delay or something for tomorrow, so I wouldn't have to get up at 5:00 am to de-glacier my car. Doesn't look like it.

In addition to crappy roads, we're still going to have freezing drizzle in the morning, and heavy fog. Driving in the sort of conditions we'll have tomorrow stress the hell out of me. If you could measure my pulse and blood pressure in these situations, they'd both be through the roof. (My pressure goes up just remembering what it was like driving in the aftermath of the last big ice storm we had.) Even going 15 miles per hour I'm terrified of skidding into someone, and since everyone's going 15 mph, it means you're stressed out for three times longer than you normally would be.

All things considered, though, I've been very fortunate so far. I didn't have to venture out at all today, as work and my night classes were both cancelled. About 1 in 3 households in this state, most of them around Oklahoma City, are still without power right now (my mom and stepdad included), and I haven't had so much as a blip. The placement of my apartment and where my car's parked mean I've had no danger of either getting smashed by ice-laden trees. Sure do still hear a lot of them going down, though; I wouldn't be surprised to be woken up around 3:00 by a big one.

winter, work
