I've finally found the solution to making it through road-trips with Dad and his wife: fully-charged iPod and laptop, complete with DVD. :) It's much easier to cut back snarky/bitchy replies to something she says that makes me want to scoff - if I don't hear what she says. ;) Just as well, she spent the better part of the way up to Missouri

I did once see someone commenting that "the first season of Battlestar Galactica is great, but you have to get through the miniseries first," and while I don't dislike the miniseries, I can see the truth in that statement. At the start, the show may have been trying hard to prove how different a take it had on the basic concepts, story and character, of the original. After that setup, the first episode of the first season left me with a sort of "this is the greatest thing ever!" feeling, although that's since mellowed to a less demanding appreciation.

I think the biggest drawback for me with the mini was the characters - I just wasn't overly invested in any of them, and wouldn't have been too bummed if any of them had died. Not the best harbinger, considering it's basically a post-apocalyptic tale. ;) (Well, Boomer was kind of cute, I guess, though I was already spoiled for the big reveal on her character.) Which sort of surprised me, since I associate Ron Moore with some of my favorite character work on ST: TNG. I may give the series itself a shot somewhere down my Netflix queue, but right now, I'm kind of iffy.

Also the character comes across to me as not really being a women - just a man with boobs.

Like I mentioned above, my big problem with the mini was that none of the characters really drew me in - Starbuck included. I like the premise, but if I don't care about any of the characters... not generally a good sign. ;)
