Morning drive-by

Nov 15, 2005 08:33

(SHIT! I was removing a staple from a bundle of paperwork and it flung right into my eye! Damn, I'm glad it wasn't moving faster! I'm wondering if my eye didn't get scratched, though - ow...)

-- Sheesh! I know I tease you guys in other states about being wusses when it comes to wind, but I was almost literally blown over when I got into my car this morning! I swear wind was gusting to at least 40 mph. Which can only mean it's going to get worse as the day goes on. :P
At least it gave me an excuse to wear my Gryffindor scarf. :) I'm going to be wearing it to the 12:01 GoF Thursday night anyway, but I don't mind having another excuse. ;) Little sis getting her own today - hers will be the newer style (mine's the PS/CoS style), so though we'll both be Gryffindorks *g* at the premiere, at least we won't completely be copying one another. My scarf has a little pumpkin pinned to it, too. ;)
-- Am d/l-ing the entire first season of VM, which I am sure will kill my poor laptop before I actually get to see another ep. But hey, I figure it's easier to wait now and have all the eps to watch later, than be twiddling my thumbs later between individual downloads.
-- In my free time, between poking at fics, I've been enjoying Slacktivist's fantastic weekly vivisection of the Left Behind books, which I found linked on ladylisse's LJ awhile back. This guy completely rips apart the series' complete and utter lack oftheology as well as good writing almost paragraph by paragraph; he's been going at it for ages and is only about halfway through the first book, but each entry is excellent. I was fortunate enough to never do more with the books than flip through my sister's copy of the first one (she gave up in disgust partway through the fourth), but one need not have read the series to enjoy this whammy. :) (I'm not atheist, nor is this blog anti-Christianity - if anything, it highlights how the books themselves are anti-Christianity). I wish I could show this blog to Dad, who - though he's never picked up a single LB book - insists the books portray infallible events of prophecy.
-- Picked up Dressing a Galaxy yesterday. My goodness, this is a gorgeous book! I sat there in the library parking lot at least 10 minutes drooling over pictures before I tore myself away from it long enough to drive home. ;) This makes me wish even more I'd been able to see the LA costume exhibit lazypadawan gave such a wonderful account of, but for now, I'll settle for finding a scanner, because damn, some of the pics in there are great Photoshop material. I also especially liked Trisha Biggar's notes about Padme's funeral gown, why she chose the particular fabric she did: it evokes the memory of the Lake Country, where she and Anakin fell in love and where she wanted to escape with him, and this gown symbolizes her spiritual return to that place. Okay, major fanfic fodder there. :D
