Yup. Another post! Maybe it's NaNoWriMo and I'm just writing journal entries rather than a novel. ;-p
Anyways, I'm working on illusion knitting scarf. Illusion knitting is where you knit a hidden image into your work that can only be seen from certain angles. Harry Potter and Dr. Who are big subjects in illusion knitting. My favorite piece so far is
a Dark Mark scarf. When one looks at it straight on, it's just green and black stripes. See it at an angle, and **bing**, the image is there.
Because I have to be difficult about things, I've decided to knit words, so that if the image turns out backwards or upside down or something, it'll be way noticeable and I should frog it try again.
I have issues reading knitting patterns. It takes a lot of concentration to get past the K1, *Slst, K1, PSSO, K5, K2tog * Repeat 5 times between * I do slightly better when working from graphs but still have to double check things an awful lot.
Illusion knitting is really testing me, even though it's just knitting and purling and there are no fancy stitches, no complicated color work, no decreases or increases.
A big part of this is my inability to read knitting patterns L to R and then knit R to L. I want to read the pattern in the same the direction as I knit. It makes loads of sense to me. Only, since you work the design rows from the wrong side of the knitting, it'll come out backwards, or upside down, or mirror image. Just weird and not in a good way unless it's a Through the Looking Glass secret message or something.
Luckily, though, through the magic of modern technology, I think I've figured out a way to flip my chart so that I can get it so I can organize the chart in the direction I knit and have at it.
Wish me luck!
