'You're too loud...'
Those words pop into her mind almost instantly the moment his voice reached her ears.
He sure knew how to make the spotlight fall on him wherever he went. Handsome, talented, and filthy rich. Gifted with a lean body sculpted from years of playing tennis and a voice so melodious... "ear-raping", as she tagged it when she first heard of it.
He was sitting on his desk while waiting for the next teacher, arms and legs crossed, smiling that lazy smirk that never failed to send his fangirls into a screaming frenzy. She was no stranger to their declarations of love -- and him either. How he managed to stay calm in the midst of adolescent banshees was beyond her.
She looked at him from her Dan Brown novel, and to her surprise, catched his stare with hers. Images of ice, blue skies, and deep oceans invaded her mind's eye, and she wondered, was his personality like that?
She looked away, flipped a page, wanting to diminish all succeeding thoughts.
But not him.

'You're too quiet.'
How she managed to ignore his presence during their years studying in the same classroom was beyond him.
She sticked out like a sore thumb amongst the screaming mob of hormone-induced fangirls of his. Whenever they start coming, she would go to a corner, sit near the window, and open her novel -- her shield from the reality that threatened to send her eardrums to extinction.
His eyes narrowed upon seeing the cover of her latest book. Angels and Demons?
So she's into those kinds of things, he mused.
He maintained his cocky facade in front of his fangirls, while stealing glances at her once in a while. They were getting bolder, he observed, as one broke free from the group and glomped him, before being dragged away by her posse and other jealous girls. A catfight immediately ensued, and he took this opportunity to let his gaze linger at her for a bit longer.
'Look at me.'
Her brown eyes darted across the pages, savoring every written moment.
'Look at me, damn it.'
Her right index finger glided daintily on the edge of the next page.
'Look at me 'cause I'm looking at you!'
A yelp of pain from behind him came, as one of the girls pulled the hair of the bold one who hugged him earlier. Her gaze diverted, distracted by the sound, and caught his.
'Calm winds and serene lands.'
At the moment, time seemed to freeze.
