Yesterday at lunch my mom brought up
College of the Ozarks, essentially out of the blue. I'd heard of it before, but didn't know much about it. She told me that their farm work program allows students to work their way through college essentially debt free. This sounds very promising, so I looked it up online and had decided that this is my dream college - except that it's in the jungle-like wilds of Missouri. I'm familiar with the state, and while I have fond feelings for it, it is both very far away from, and contains an absurd collection of of insects unknown to, civilized Alaska.
Upon further research, the debt free bit depends on also getting grants from the government and state. Room and board is an additional $5,600/year, plus class supplies, various registration fees, and, for me, flights to and from Alaska.
Why does college have to be so terribly expensive!?!
Thankfully, my backup plan - the local community college - is very much in place! : P
