I think I'm going to scream.
I just wrote a [relatively] long analysis on my feelings post-Tangled and then accidentally deleted it all! Arrrgggghhhhhh.
Let's see what I can salvage from memory:
I finally got to watch
Tangled last week; for my birthday. Technically I watched it twice, with two different sets of sisters. It's very good. I think I enjoyed it more the second time, even! : D (The mark of a favorite.) Rapunzel is so trusting and sweet, Flynn so debonair, and Maximus is hilarious. The Kingdom is beautiful (I agree with
proverbsun 's summation - "Flowers and purple and dancing and purple and cuteness and purple," though I would like to add "Star lanterns and purple."). The story is lovely and deep. I think I'll be watching this movie a lot in the future.
However: despite it all, and my expectation, I do prefer
How To Train Your Dragon by a little bit. I'm not sure if I can explain why. The only points I have against Tangled, really, are as follows:
~ The point near the climax when the building drama is quashed by Flynn's zany escape from the castle. Earlier in the movie it would have been fine. But after the emotional interchange between Rapunzel and Mother Gothel what was needed was a somewhat realistic escape scene to keep the tension.
~ And I'm sorry, but I wasn't able to suspend my disbelief of the healing tear and following golden swirls. It doesn't ruin the ending, but it takes the edge off the otherwise wonderful scene.
However Pt. 2: As I said before the negative stuff, I still love this movie. I just tend to be a little demanding, is all.
Which is why I've come to the truly unhappy conclusion that I like both How To Train Your Dragon and Tangled better than
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
