And Rain was elsewhere again. She looked around and saw Romana and began to start towards her when she saw Romana greet Tony and Tony reject her and the subsequent series of images. Her heart hurt for Romana and when it seemed quiet again she moved out a little ways where Romana could see her.

Even if Romana hadn't seen Rain out of the corner of her eye, she would have known she was there. She schooled her anguished expression and spoke softly.

"Hello, Rain."

"Hmmmm, for now." She gave Rain a tired smile. "But there will be someone else someday. Someone more adventurous, passionate, better suited to him. Maybe even his beloved Cat, should she return."

"He doesn't think that way," Rain said. "He thinks no one really likes him and that he's not good enough. When he truly lets someone in... he doesn't let them go unless he has no other choice."

"Of course he's good enough, he's the best man I know, I..." She was about to finish the thought but stopped. What was the use of loving someone who was bound leave you?

"He'll leave me someday, when he realizes that his life moves forward and mine is static. Or I'll have to regenerate and he won't care for the new version of me. He'll find someone else."

"Maybe... maybe you have to enjoy what you have," Rain said softly. "Anything could happen to anyone at any time. People die or disappear or... or are changed. But if you just hide away inside... you don't have anything."
