The 86th Annual Academy Awards - Winners&Thoughts

Mar 03, 2014 20:17

I really want to stop talking about the Oscars but I can't help myself, lol!
Yesterday I watched the live event and it was a very nice experience. I think the ceremony was a little flat, but I loved those funny moments with Ellen: hahaha, this woman is a myth! Now I'd like to discuss the winners of this edition and to show you my favourite outfits of this year. So, let's start!

Best Picture

"12 Years a Slave"
"American Hustle"
"Gravity"
"The Wolf of Wall Street"
"Dallas Buyers Club"
"Her"
"Nebraska"
"Philomena"
"Captain Phillips"

- I'm very happy that this movie was the winner! Nothing to say about it, even if it wasn't my personal choice. I loved very much the moment when all the cast and the crew were on the stage: it was a very sweet moment.

Best Actor

Matthew McConaughey, "Dallas Buyer's Club"
Christian Bale, "American Hustle"
Bruce Dern, "Nebraska"
Leonardo DiCaprio, "The Wolf of Wall Street"
Chiwetel Ejiofor, "12 Years a Slave"

- This was the more important moment for me, because I loved his performance too much! I wasn't all that sure the Academy could give the prize to him, so I'm very happy of this result!

Best Actress

Cate Blanchett, "Blue Jasmine"
Amy Adams, "American Hustle"
Sandra Bullock, "Gravity"
Judi Dench, "Philomena"
Meryl Streep, "August: Osage County"

- As I have said before, I wasn't very impressed of her performance, because it was nothing special. Anyway, I'm happy for her, because she's a great actress and I'm fan of her. I was a little disappointed for Sandra Bullock, because Gravity winned basically everything and she was so disappointed because of Cate's win. I wanted to hug her in that moment! Anyway this Gravity thing is strange, because the Academy let it wins only in technical categories.

Best Supporting Actor

Jared Leto, "Dallas Buyer's Club"
Barkhad Abdi, "Captain Phillips"
Bradley Cooper, "American Hustle"
Michael Fassbender, "12 Years a Slave"
Jonah Hill, "The Wolf of Wall Street"

- I was team Fassy, but i'm happy for Jared! He deserved it!

Best Supporting Actress

Lupita Nyong’o, "12 Years a Slave"
Jennifer Lawrence, "American Hustle"
Sally Hawkins, "Blue Jasmine"
Julia Roberts, "August: Osage County"
June Squibb, "Nebraska"

- I'm so happy of her winning! That moment was so magical: her speech, her dress, her emotion! She's a very nice person! ♥

Best Director

Alfonso Cuarón, "Gravity"
David O. Russell, "American Hustle"
Steve McQueen, "12 Years a Slave"
Alexander Payne, "Nebraska"
Martin Scorsese, "The Wolf of Wall Street"

- Nothing to say about this. I would have preferred Steve McQueen, but Cuaròn is talented too.

Best Original Screenplay

Spike Jonze, "Her"
"American Hustle"
"Blue Jasmine"
"Dallas Buyers Club"
"Nebraska"

- Right winning in this category. The screenplay was flawless.

Best Adapted Screenplay

John Ridley, "12 Years a Slave"
"Before Midnight"
"Captain Phillips"
"Philomena"
"The Wolf of Wall Street"

- I'm happy for this prize too! I would have preferred Philomena, but I'm happy anyway!

Best Original Song

"Let It Go" from "Frozen," Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez
"The Moon Song" from "Her,"  Karen O. and Spike Jonze
"Ordinary Love" from "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom," U2 (Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.) and Danger Mouse (Brian Burton)
"Happy" from "Despicable Me 2," Pharrell Williams

- I think Ordinary Love was better than Let It Go, but it's okay!

Best Original Score

Steven Price, "Gravity"
Alexandre Desplat, "Philomena"
William Butler and Owen Pallett, "Her"
John Williams, "The Book Thief"
Thomas Newman, "Saving Mr. Banks"

- Totally agree with the Academy! The music is everything in this movie!

Best Production Design

Catherine Martin, Beverley Dunn, "The Great Gatsby"
"American Hustle"
"Gravity"
"Her"
"12 Years a Slave"

- It was an obvious choice!

Best Film Editing

Alfonso Cuarón, Mark Sanger, "Gravity"
"12 Years a Slave"
"Captain Phillips"
"American Hustle"
"Dallas Buyers Club"

- Even in this category I totally agree!

Best Cinematography

Emmanuel Lubezki, "Gravity"
"The Grandmaster"
"Inside Llewyn Davis"
"Nebraska"
"Prisoners"

- I think that Nebraska deserved it, but, as I said before, Gravity was a well made movie. So I'm happy for all the Oscars winned by this film.

Best Sound Editing

Glen Freemantle, "Gravity"
"Captain Phillips"
"All Is Lost"
"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug"
"Lone Survivor"

- I was team Hobbit, because in this movie everything was flawless in technical aspect.

Best Sound Mixing

Skip Lievsay, Niv Adiri, Christopher Benstead, Chris Munro, "Gravity"
"Captain Phillips"
"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug"
"Inside Llewyn Davis"
"Lone Survivor"

- Same here.

Best Foreign Language Film

"The Great Beauty"
"The Broken Circle Breakdown"
"The Hunt"
"The Missing Picture"
"Omar"

- Okay, I should be happy because I'm Italian, but I am not. I didn't watch this movie, I'll see it tomorrow. I usually don't like Italian modern films, because they are useless: they're made in a bad way, the actors are almost all awful, the photography is horrible and plot is usually absurd. I have watched another Sorrentino's movie, This Must Be The Place and the only good thing about this film was Sean Penn. I also didn't like the attitude of the cast that was present: they were so snob! Anyway, I'll tell you what I think about this film in the next days.

Best Visual Effects

Tim Webber, Chris Lawrence, Dave Shirk, Neil Corbould, "Gravity"
"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug"
"Iron Man 3"
"The Lone Ranger"
"Star Trek Into Darkness"

- Okay, I think this prize was an absurd choice! I mean there were The Hobbit, The Lone Ranger, Iron Man, Star Trek! There was much more work in those films than in Gravity. I'll never understand this winning.

Best Animated Feature

"Frozen"
"The Croods"
"Despicable Me 2"
"Ernest and Celestine"
"The Wind Rises"

- No competition in this category!

Best Makeup And Hairstyling

"Dallas Buyers Club"
"Bad Grandpa"
"The Lone Ranger"

- No. I mean, Johnny Depp slept with the make-up on because it tooks so long for re-made it, and the winner is Dallas Buyers Club? Bof!

Best Costume Design

Catherine Martin, "The Great Gatsby"
"The Grandmaster"
"American Hustle"
"The Invisible Woman"
"12 Years a Slave"

- I totally agree! The costumes in this movie are A M A Z I N G!
