Interesting. I apologize for showing my ignorance but I never thought that racism would be a problem in atheism. I was aware of it in Judaism, but my knowledge is still lacking. Also, another question. Is atheism and humanism, the same thing or are they completely different ideologies? With regard to racism in Islam, it's interesting. The exec took the speaker out to lunch the day after the dinner and it was eye-opening. We were talking about AIDS in Africa and the lack of concentrated support from Muslims. The speaker mentioned that a good portions of it (not all)was due to either A) the stigma behind AIDS or B) it's not Palestine thus not important. Our then president responded that "No, practicing Muslim would ever let that stop them." The other African American on exec and I were like "Uh, yeah they would." While I do not claim to be completely up to date of Muslim affairs in the US, from my perspective we still have a long way to go for at least some unity. It's improving due to immigration of Muslims from other areas than the Middle East as well as Muslims who converted who are from the US. But yeah, it's an issue that I'm coming to terms with its existence.
