Did you want to join us for breakfast, Daatu?

Dec 25, 2006 13:30

It was still early on the morning of Christmas when Soulfire went down to the first floor. Her bare feet made hardly any sound, but the professor was certain many of the students were still soundly asleep. She knew, however, that one student might be still awake or already awake ( Read more... )

Daatu lay, facing the window, frame shuddering slightly as she fought back tears. The Lonehills had called while on their cruise to 'check' on her and to ask if she wanted anything while they were out souvenier shopping. All she'd wanted was...to spend this holiday with them, although she'd not said exactly that. She glared at her silent cell phone and was tempted to throw it against the wall and watch it shatter, but then she'd have no way to get hold of anyone worth talking to.

Long story short, the girl was indeed awake, looked like she had been for quite sometime, seeing as she was disheveled, and bore dark circles under her eyes. Not exactly the picture of Holiday Cheer.

Ruby needed only one look at the girl to know roughly what was going on. She'd been around the world for an even longer time than her current owner and partner, and she could recognise the signs of sleepless nights with a single glance.

"Still awake," the fairy reported once she'd wriggled herself through the keyhole again. "I doubt she has even slept for a day or two."

"Hm, I already thought so," Soulfire replied softly. "I detected a lot of sorrow from her post. Maybe I can help her." The witch sighed, but then smiled warmly again and knocked on the door. If only she could help to lift the problems from the girl's shoulders...

The knock sounded and Daatu jerked up from her position in the bed. Who the hell was calling on her? Wasn't everyone gone for that stupid holiday?

She rose form the bed and checked ehrself in the mirror. 'God I look awful... I hope they don't ask me tons of questions...' She said to herself as she answered the door quietly, opening it just a little, only to stare mutely at a woman she'd never met before. She was sure she was a teacher or something because she looked vaguely familiar...

Soulfire smiled at the astonished girl before. "Good morning, Daatu," she said friendly. "I hope I didn't wake you up, but Professor Shier and I are going to have breakfast together. I hoped that maybe you would like to join us as well?"

Her eyes gazed at the small girl, almost as if they wanted to look right through her to see what was going on in her mind. "We would like it if you could join and no one should spent Christmas alone. Of course, if you had other plans... You don't have to come."

Daatu started to say something but went quiet. Breakfast? with two professors? "uhm...n-no plans. Are you certain I will not be imposing?" She stared up at the pretty red head and bit her lip.

She had not been woken either, but then again she hardly ever slept anymore. The bad dreams were returning and she found herself rather and loose ends with the people in ehr life right now. Everything was a mess...

"My dear," Soulfire said gently, "would I come down to ask you for breakfast if either Dayenne - I mean, Professor Shier - or I would find it annoying?" She extended one hand to the troubled girl. "We don't mind it. Don't be afraid that you might be imposing. We'd like it."

Daatu listened to the woman's words. They rang true in her mind. She reached out and took the woman's hand quietly, eyes wide and lips slightly parted.

"I uhm...thank you for...the invite. It means alot." She said softly, reaching back for her keys and stepping out of her bedroom, letting the door close behind her.

Soulfire let her fingers wrap around the small, somewhat cold hand. "It's alright, I hope you will like it," she smiled. She began to walk to the stairs again. "Oh, and before I forget it. Don't pay any attention to Ruby when she makes herself visible again. She likes to pull pranks at people."

They reached the room Soulfire currently lived in. The witch opened the door for Daatu and nodded with a smile that she could go in.

Daatu was quietly led to the teacher's rooms, not having a whole lot to say on the way there. "Ruby?" She asked however, not seeing another person, but then again the woman HAD said she was invisible.

Daatu eyed the opened door for a moment before entering with caution, taking in her surroundings carefully. She'd never been in a teacher's room...save for Arachne's.

The room was neat and organized. Bookcases lined the walls, and various books about witchcraft, divination, monsters and other magical topics filled them. There were also shelves filled with divination material - crystal ball, runes, several packs of tarot cards and things used for the less known ways of divination - as well as potions and small curios ( ... )

^________^

Oh man I just have to fangirl this couple 'cause...I dunno, actually, but I do. And partial nudity + unexpected company is I think one of my favourite ways for a relationship to become apparent. Also picturing Dayenne doing the sleepymumble thing is adorable.

Didn't bother to sign out of my personal journal, oops >_>

^__^ Glad you like it. The next one who interrupts just when they are clearly doing something is Faith? >P

And it's alright, I bet Faith doesn't have such a fangirly-cute icon. XD
