"Personally" Rygel said "I think it's for the best."

Stark and Crais just stared at him, dumbfounded. Crais gave silent thanks to whatever cosmic forces might exist that Aeryn was nowhere near Talyn's mess, and thus had no way of overhearing whatever Rygel was going to say in response to his tentatively voiced "....what is, Dominar?"

Rygel looked up from his forth helping of jankaz pudding. "Hmm? Oh! Crichton" he said nonchalantly.

There was more staring and silent praises of thanks for Aeyn's absence before Stark broke the silence by saying, "Well, yes, Crichton has gone on to his reward, and that is a great blessing..."

"No, no, no, no, no!" yelled Rygel, "I mean it's as plain as the brows on my head that she's better off without him! Idiotic, simpleminded, primitive..." Rygel continued on for a while while Stark made incoherent sputtering noises.

"Ah, Dominar," Crais finally interrupted, "while I agree whole-heartedly" - Stark opened his mouth to protest loudly and Crais silenced him with a look - "perhaps it would be best not to voice these thoughts while Officer Sun is on board."

"What," Rygel snapped, "don't be absurd! Someone's got to snap her out of it and help her realize how much better off she is! Get her back to the land of the living..."

Stark stopped being horribly offended for a moment so he could be monumentally confused instead.

"Be that as it may, Dominar, surely when dealing with an emotionally delecate being as a peacekeeper who has rejected all their training...." every word burned Crais' throat as it came out.

"Hmmph," Rygel sniffed. "Suppose you're right. People can be damned sentimental about lovers, even to the detriment of all reason. I had this one concubine, that if anyone said a word against her, I would have banished them to one planetoid - and their head to another! Come to think of it, that's what happened to old cousin Maryk..." the dominar left the table and started gliding out of the room, lost in memories.

Once Rygel had left the room and he had gained back some control, Stark said "That was very diplomatic of you, captain."

Crais nodded. "Thank you," he said, and added silently Even more so considering I heartily agree with a great deal of what he said. Good bye, Crichton, and good riddance.
