remixthedrabble I learnt long ago, small, naked, and blind at my mother’s teat, that the wolf without the pack is nothing and to be a wolf you must be in, of and for your pack.
When they left me to drown, deciding the risk to the pack was not worth it, I died. And then strong limbs pulled me from the water, and I was born again, within a pack that would never abandon me, deaf as I am.
Now my packmate has gone, wandering alone within himself and in so deep and vast a place he could easily be lost. I hear a steady beat in my one good ear, I feel it in my chest and I run to follow it. It’s the sound of the drum he beat as he meditated the sound of our legs as we run side by side, the sound of our heat beating, the pack’s heart.
I find my packmate, the other half of my self, and I lead him home with gentle prodding.
It may be small, a pack of only two - him and me - but it is my pack and I would do anything to keep it safe and whole.
No matter how many "wolf's eye view" Deif fics get written, it still never feels like enough. I"m doing my part.
