Title: The Last Place
Welcome back again to the commentary track for
The Last Place. I am your freindly author, Liza, and I am here to tell you just what the frell I was thinking when I wrote this long, sad, sordid tale of Baby-Snatching Space Pirates and the Mystics Who Vex Them.

Hey, I'd be interested in that. :)
which is how I discovered they were canibals. I changed it because it makes more sense this way - why would they eat him when he had to pursuade them not to capture him to sell before?
I was going to say that it's not technically cannibalism, since they're not the same species, but I see you've been specific about your definition later. :) (And, hmm, now I'm wondering what the heck Banik tastes like, and really not being happy with my brain for going there. :)) I'm glad you changed this bit, not just because it does make more sense, but because I love that line about Crichton being Stark's "powerful former owner." It's a good illustration of how people think about Baniks, and of how little these guys understand the relationships between these people.
the mad act is also a bit of liberation for Stark, I think, letting him express things his twisted core broods overOoh, yes ( ... )

Lucky for you I added it then, huh? :D

Precisely for that reason, in fact.
(And, hmm, now I'm wondering what the heck Banik tastes like, and really not being happy with my brain for going there. :))
...and my brain insists on interpreting this in tha naughty way, too...

*nods* Yup. One thing I always try to make clear is how intrenched Banik are as "non people" to 99% of the folks out there.
Ooh, yes. I can so see that. I think it's true in canon, and I can see it continuing to be true post-PKW. And I think I've said before, I like the fact that he ( ... )

Well, yes, my brain also went there. And is now going there again, and doesn't seem to want to come back. *slaps brain*

Yes, I think "non-people" is exactly how they're viewed.
(I've had a Zhaan-didn't-die-AU fic snippet in my brain for ages in which, for some reason Zhaan and Stark are checking into a hotel on some planet or other, and the hotel manager tells Zhaan she can send her slave down for her bags or something, and she tells him he's not her slave, he's her mate, and he disapproves strongly and there's a big scene and they end up getting thrown out of the hotel. Never wrote it, though, 'cause I don't really have a story to attach it to. Um. I'm not sure why I felt compelled to share that. :))

I'm getting my Plant Porn someday, even if I have to write it myself...

Did you ever consider doing this with John? Not the "my mate" part, but post PK Wars, I can see John pulling a hissy fit at this sort of stuff.

...I don't suppose I could steal it? There's about three different places in Appleseeds it could fit, with minor adjustments, and ooh, ooh, I'm liking the "no room at the inn" paralells, too, for a christmas Fic ( ... )

I always meant to write some explicit Stark/Zhaan, and just never really did. I've sort of written sex scenes for them, but they're all very, um, soft-focus.

Yeah, John can do outrage really well. Although he doesn't give me my shippy fix. *hangs head* :)

Hmm. I don't see why not, if it really works for you. I'm almost certainly never going to write it, and even if I did it'd probably be different from your version.

Yeah, Nancy was more explicit, and she wasn't very at all. I came up with an arrangement for Zhaan's genetals, so that I could write explicit plant porn if I wanted to... just haven't yet. Because I really do suck at porn.

WeeeeeEEEeelll.... Uhm. No. I just can't get that to work. Nevermind.

This is true. We have similar ideas, but we tend to take them different places...

Heh. Yeah, I know exactly what Delvian genitalia are like, at least in the RPG-world, because RPG-Stark has told me, um, many interesting facts. But it hasn't exactly come up. :)
Because I really do suck at porn.
I can write it, but, as I was just telling somebody else very recently, I find that I've become very bored with it. You can only read so many descriptions of the, erm, ins and outs before it all starts to feel terribly repetitive. Or at least, it does to me. Explicit Stark/Zhaan would be much more interesting to me for the characterization aspects, and perhaps for a look at alien biology.

Yeah, I really can't get my brain to go Stark/John places. I've tried. :)

*howls* Oh, it's so good to know It's not me. Though I didn't get it in lecture-from-Stark mode: I think I'm glad.

No, the actual plain physical facts do get boring, but the enotional content for me is what makes good porn, blended with the physical.

Well, it wasn't a lecture exactly... I get a lot of non-verbal stuff from him. :)

Yes, exactly. And I actually have trouble imagining Stark/Zhaan as porn in the "intended to titillate" sense. It's so not them somehow. I think it has something to do with the fact that it so seems the exact opposite of "dirty." Which isn't to say that you couldn't make it sexy. But S/Z just doesn't feel porny to me, if you see what I mean.

Oh, yes. Ooh, it occurs to me that it would be lovely to do a story that was basically a series of love scenes, charting those changes in emotional tone. Hmm. *makes a note of this plot bunny*

No, you're right. Beautiful and sexy, and glorious, but in an odly wholesome non dirty way. Plant porn is a bit of a misnomer. I should cal it "plant erotica".

*cackles* That one I'd love to see...
I swear, John is, like, the straightest guy on television. I don't care what anybody says, he is. :)See, I think John slash comes from the fact that he hangs out with ( ... )

Ah, I only wish. :)
See, I think John slash comes from the fact that he hangs out with alot of not-very-straight guys, and is pretty.
It's interesting, because to my mind most of the characters on FS are easy to see as, at the very least, sexually flexible, so you'd think there'd be a lot of slash possibilities. But I just can't see slashing them with each other. With rare exceptions, the character dynamics just don't work in such a way as to make it really plausible to me. The one character who has strong, interesting, slash-potential relationships with everybody is John... if only he weren't, y'know, straight as a ruler. :)
And the thing is, he's not uber straight in that "many he man" way, who would have a fit if you even sugested it, but just... comfortable in his sexuality.
I get the impression that he gets a little bit squicked by the idea of guys coming on to him, but, yeah, he doesn't get all macho and reactionary about it, and he definitely has no problem ( ... )

He's deliciously shaggable, isn't he? But I wouldn't kick Paul out of bed for eating crackers... or pudding... with his fingers... and no bowl... He's also mildly more attainable, exsisting in the same universe as me.

Scorpy/Braca being one of those rare exceptions?

A fanon I have in my head is Stark just.. NOT GETTING the concept of monosexuality. Just being utterly unable to get it at all. Yes, obviously, you have an easier time the opposite gender to make babies with, but what's that got to do with ( ... )

Frighteningly so. :)

True. And Paul's adorable. But I have a weird sort of squick about fantasizing about real people, so the image of him in my brain behaves itself. :)

Oh yes. :)

Heh. Yeah, I saw that when you were doing the "ask my characters things" meme. Poor Stark looked quite confused. :)
My RPG Baniks (on whom I have expended way, way too much thought) don't actually have words for "homosexual" and "heterosexual" and find the idea of those as orientations really bizarre. They see it as preferences. Some people have a strong preference one way or another, and some don't, but it's like your taste in food, or or other criteria for what you like in a partner, not something that's a core identity issue. And most Baniks have had at least one experience with each sex, if only ( ... )

I would get it to if I could. I think if I ever met him face to face it would nip that in the bud, weirdly enough.

That was TOO MUCH FUN, and more than a little self-indulgent. :D

At least your characters didn't insult you. :)
This actually makes much more sense than the way I have it in my head, and in many ways is identical anyway.
Having opened the mpreg can of worms, so to speak, it seemed to me that there would have to be social and psychological consequences of that on their ideas about sexuality.
(We get on the weirdest ass tangents, I swear...)
Um... Yes. :)

The wrong people got asked the wrong questions for that, you see...

You may have noticed that I accepted the Mpreg without question, always saying things like the chances are better with someone of the opposite gender. It just made so much sense, the way you described it.
