Fanmixes! Part 2. Oops.

Sep 01, 2006 22:15

Um, so, back in July I posted this fanmix meme.

I kinda sorta totally forgot to post the rest of the mixes after I posted the Harry/Ginny and Hermione/Snape ones.

So, erm... oops?

(Also, don't forget my August Frankenmix!)

For scribophile, who requested Tonks.

Like the Harry/Ginny mix, I couldn't seem to stop at one mix. Heh. So, Tonks turned into Remus/Tonks, and then Remus needed one of his own, too.

So there you are.

Tonks fanmix:

1.) "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," Cyndi Lauper

Because when we meet Tonks in OotP, she strikes me as a Cyndi Lauper fan. ;) And maybe she's not as fun in HBP, but I figure she's got plenty of reasons to be stressed. This does not lessen my love of Tonks, or my opinion that she's a "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" kinda gal.

2.) "Not a Pretty Girl," Ani DiFranco

Actually, I think Tonks IS a pretty girl, but that's beside the point. I mean, this is my girl-who-kicks-ass song. (I'm not getting in to how HBP did NOT change my opinion of Tonks as being made of awesome. But I'm just saying.)

I am not a pretty girl
That is not what I do
I ain't no damsel in distess
And I don't need to be rescued...

...I have been working all of my life.
And I am a patriot.
I have been fighting the good fight.
And what if there are no damsels in distress?
What if I knew that and I called your bluff?
Don't you think every kitten figures out how to get down,
Whether or not you ever show up?

3.) "Fool Out of Me," Idina Menzel

Because I think Tonks must wonder this occasionally. She's clumsy, she's a metamorphmagus, and THEN she falls in love with a werewolf with delusions of martyrdom. ;) Hee.

All that I don't know
Paralyzes me
But somehow I keep going on
Just settling for this mediocrity
And I wonder if God is trying to make a fool out of me
I wonder if God is trying to make a fool out of me...

...Cause I don't want to sound like
Anyone else, you know
I just wanna take you under my spell
Excuse me for saying
What I know down deep is my sin
But maybe I'll fool everybody into thinking
I know just what I am doing

4.) "Losing My Religion," R.E.M.

Because in the South, when you fall in love, you're "losing your religion." And Tonks didn't just fall in love with Remus, she fell HARD. And then there was the whole Remus pushing her away thing, coupled with the whole Remus going to live with werewolves thing, grouped with all the Order business she surely was up to. It was a stressful year, to put it mildly.

Life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no I've said too much
I set it up

That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no I've said too much
I haven't said enough

5.) "Mad Season," Matchbox 20

Um, so this song might well summarize precisely how I see the Remus/Tonks relationship, particularly from her POV. Again, I think it was one crazy year. And you're getting the whole song quoted here, because I can't find an appropriate section by itself. Besides, it works as a Tonks-in-HBP song because everyone has those times when they feel stupid, worthless, and broken. And even if you know you're a normally strong person, sometimes you just can't handle it on your own.

I feel stupid, but I know it won't last for long
I've been guessing, but I coulda been guessin' wrong
You don't know me now
I kinda thought that you should somehow
Does that whole mad season got ya down?

I feel stupid, but it's something that comes and goes
I've been changin'; I think it's funny how no one knows
We don't talk about the little things that we do without
When that whole mad season comes around

So why ya gotta stand there
Looking like the answer now
It seems to me, you'd come around
I need you now
Do you think you can cope
You figured me out - I'm lost and I'm hopeless
Bleeding and broken, though I've never spoken
I come undone - in this mad season

I feel stupid, but I think I been catchin' on
I feel ugly, but I know I still turn you on
You seem colder now, torn apart, angry, turned around
Will that whole mad season knock you down?

So are you gonna stand there
Are you gonna help me out
You need to be together now - I need you now
Now I'm cryin' - isn't that what you want
I'm tryin' to live my life on my own
But I won't
At times, I do believe I am strong
So someone tell me why, why, why
Do I feel stupid
And I come undone

Bonus: "All of the Above," Idina Menzel

Because it's not necessarily REALLY Tonks, but I couldn't help it. Seeing as she's a metamorphmagus and presumably goes undercover a lot. It fits.

Whatever you're thinking
Whatever your feeling
I'll be either one or
All of the above
I'll keep you guessing, babe
You won't need confession, no
I'll be either one or
All of the above
Well I couldn't imagine
If I couldn't be myself
'cause if you're afraid to
Ask for what you want
Then you might rebel

Remus fanmix:

1.) "10,000 Miles," Adam Pascal

Well, I'm sure I had a reason for putting this song here, but right now, the precise reason escapes me. But as it is, it seems a Remus-type song, about distance and longing.

Wait for the sun to set your time
Wait till your tide rolls out to sea
Take a deep breath, whisper my name
I'll look up just in time to see
I'll see the sky that's in your eyes
Then the stars can follow me
10,000 miles to take me home
I don't belong, out here alone at sea
10,000 miles ain't that far
When it's over and done,
there's nothing but you and me

2.) "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk," Rufus Wainwright

Well. This song has always sort of been associated with Remus in my mind. Particularly if you take Remus/Sirius as canon (which I do). I don't think a past relationship with Sirius (particularly when they were young) negates a future relationship with Tonks. Just sayin'. (Plus, the song has a very melancholy 'looking back' feel to it, at least for me. Which may be why I can't seem to apply it to Remus/Tonks so much as Remus/Sirius. Who knows?) We'll call this PoA Remus. ;)

Cigarettes and chocolate milk
These are just a couple of my cravings
Everything it seems i like's a little bit stronger
A little bit thicker, a little bit harmful for me
If i should buy jellybeans
Have to eat them all in just one sitting
Everything it seems i like's a little bit sweeter
A little bit fatter, a little bit harmful for me
And then there's those other things
Which for several reasons we won't mention
Everything about 'em is a little bit stranger, a little bit harder
A little bit deadly
It's not very smart
Tends to make one part
So brokenhearted

3.) "Dim Halo," Greenwheel

This has been labeled a Remus song for me since arnica gave me a cd with songs for each HP character back... gosh, YEARS ago. High school, even. She called it Remus' song, and it just... is now. I think I tend to apply it to his feelings about being a werewolf, more than his feelings regarding any person (besides himself).

Imagine no daylight
only the moon as your guide...

...Just roll with the punches now,
bruises can heal
Soften the blow
cause I don’t want to feel anymore
Just cancel out this fear

4.) "The Difference," Matchbox 20

I love this song. So much love for this song. And I think it is HBP Remus. Mourning Sirius, and (presumably) falling in love with Tonks, and in denial about a lot of that. He's not sure what he wants or needs and it's his whole healing process.

Every word you never said
Echoes down your empty hallway
And everything that was your world
Just came down

Day breaking on the boulevard
Feel the sun warming up your second-hand heart
Light swimming right across your face
And you think maybe someday, yeah
Maybe someday

For all you know
Yeah, this could be
The difference between what you need
And what you want.

5.) "Iris," GooGoo Dolls

Remus is a werewolf, and forced to hide that or live with the way society will treat him. There are valid reasons behind the way he pushes Tonks away, despite what she says. (It also works from a Remus/Sirius standpoint, as well.)

And I don't want the world to see me
Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

Bonus: "Thriller," Michael Jackson

Yes, you read that right. Much the same reason "All of the Above" made it onto Tonk's mix. Because it's tongue-in-cheek and funny, and you know you giggled just now. ;)

Remus/Tonks fanmix:

1.) "Another Day," RENT

Yes, from RENT. Because Tonks is Mimi and Remus is Roger. Without the drugs. ;) No, actually, it does work. She's trying to get him to give her a chance and he's ridiculously stubborn.

Mimi:
There's only now
There's only here
Give in to love
Or live in fear

Roger:
Who says that there's a soul?
Just let me be...
Who do you think you are?
Barging in on me and my guitar
Little girl, hey
The door is that way
The fire's out anyway

2.) "Bent," Matchbox 20

I think this sums up Remus' POV, while he's arguing why they shouldn't get involved. He thinks he'll be a burden to her.

If I need some of your love again
Give me more than I can stand.
When my smile gets old and faded
Wait around I'll smile again.
Shouldn't be so complicated,
Just hold me and then
Just hold me again.

Can you help me; I'm bent?
I'm so scared that I'll never
Get put back together.
Keep breaking me in,
And this is how we will live
With you and me bent.

3.) "Beautiful Disaster," Kelly Clarkson

Yes, shut up, I like this song. Besides, I think it applies to Tonks, and whatever fears she may have when she falls in love with Remus and she wants to make it work, but she's got to have her own fears, too. Remus can't be the only one who frets and overthinks. Love might not solve everything, and Tonks is an auror--she's got to have a pragmatic "what are you thinking?!" side, too. (But I think she's more willing than Remus to push those fears aside and try.) I think I will quote more of this song than I should, but it all seems necessary.

He drowns in his dreams
An exquisite extreme I know.
He’s as damned as he seems,
And more heaven than a heart could hold.
And if I try to save him,
My whole world could cave in.
It just ain’t right.
It just ain’t right.

Oh and I don’t know.
I don’t know what he's after.
But he's so beautiful,
Such a beautiful disaster.
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful?
Or just a beautiful disaster?

He's magic and myth,
As strong as what I believe.
A tragedy with
More damage than a soul should see.
And do I try to change him?
So hard not to blame him.
Hold on tight.
Hold on tight.

...I'm longing for love and the logical
But he's only happy hysterical
I'm waiting for some kind of miracle
Waited so long
So long.
He’s soft to the touch,
But frayed at the ends, he breaks.
He’s never enough,
And still he's more than I can take...

4.) "Be Like That," 3 Doors Down

What both of them really want, and could have, if they try. And I love how he's dreaming and wondering why he can't have the life he wants, and there's no mention of "why can't that be me" in her wishings.

Then he lies awake and he wonders, why
Can't that be me?
Cause in his life he is filled with all these
Good intentions.
He's left a lot of things he'd rather not
Mention right now.
But just before he says goodnight, he looks
Up with a little smile at me and he says,
"If I could be like that, I would
Give anything.
Just to live one day, in those shoes.
If I could be like that, what would I do?
What would I do?"

She spends her days up in the north park,
Watching the people as they pass.
And all she wants is just a little piece of
This dream--is that too much to ask?
With a safe home, and a warm bed, on a
Quiet little street.
All she wants is just that something to
Hold onto, that's all she needs.

5.) "Everything You Want," Vertical Horizon

Really, this perhaps ought to be in Remus' mix, and "The Difference" should be here. But either way, it works. If you look at it from Remus/Tonks, there are a few ways it works. First, change the "he" to "she" and it's Tonks, worrying over why Remus won't let her love him in HBP. Take it from Remus' POV, and he's just all kinds of low self-esteem.

But under skinned knees and the skid marks
Past the places where you used to learn
You howl and listen
Listen and wait for the
Echoes of angels who won't return

He's everything you want
He's everything you need
He's everything inside of you
That you wish you could be
He says all the right things
At exactly the right time
But he means nothing to you
And you don't know why.

Bonus: "Love Heals," from the RENT movie

Well, another bonus. ;) And because I think everything ought to work out for Remus and Tonks, because they are both of the awesome, and deserve some happiness.

And zoe_chan asked for a mix for Mac and Ripley. Sorry, dear, no pretty cover for you, as... well, I was lazy.

=P (I figured you'd forgive me, as you will also enjoy the Tonks, Remus and Tonks/Remus mixes. ;) Hee!)

Mac and Ripley fanmix:

1.) "Bitch"

Yes, that song. Because that is SO Ripley, and she would be the first to admit it and hail this as her theme song. ;)

2.) "Fool Out of Me," Idina Menzel

For many of the same reasons I put it in Tonks' mix, except that Ripley is so in denial about her magic and is angry. I just think it works.

3.) "Push," Sarah McLachlan

This is so Ripley about Mac. I'm just quoting most of the lyrics at you, and you'll know.

Every time I look at you, the world just melts away.
All my troubles, all my fears, dissolve in your affections.
You've seen me at my weakest, yet you take me as I am.
And when I fall, you offer me a softer place to land.

You stay the course
You hold the line
You keep it all together.
You're the one true thing I know I can believe in.
You're all the things that I desire
You save me
You complete me
You're the one true thing I know I can believe in.

I get mad so easy, but you give me space to breathe.
No matter what I say or do, cause you're too good to fight about it.
Even when I have to push just to see how far you'll go,
You won't stoop down to battle me, you never turn to go.

Love is just the antidote.
Nothing else can cure me.
There are times I can't decide,
When I can't tell up from down.
You make me feel less crazy; otherwise I'd drown.
But you pick me up and brush me off and tell me I'm okay,
And sometimes that's just what we need to get us through the day.

4.) "As Long As You're Mine," from Wicked

I'm not sure why, but there's an urgency and importance to this song that works for them.

5.) "There For Me," Sarah Brightman

Ripley's terribly insecure, under all that bravado. There was a reason she kept trying to push Mac away, and part of it was that she was scared.

There for me, every time I've been away.
Will you be there for me, thinking of me ev'ry day?
Are you my destiny, words I never dared to say?
Will you be there for me?

Just think of you and me, we could never toe the line.
It's such a mystery just to hear you say you're mine.
And while you're close to me, so close to me,
Just hold me.

Bonus: "Love Heals"

Yes, again. Because it does, and it did and ZOMG TWINS!!!!!!! =D

So, there we are. I hope you love them, girls! ♥! And that you forgive the lateness. Oops.
