5 things Salazar did before actually SPEAKING to Helga.
1.) Cornered Godric and interrogated him. He asked who she was, who her family was, where she was from, how did Godric and Rowena know her... When he asked what was in her wand, Godric threatened several things, including but not limited to shoving Salazar off the battlements and telling Helga that Salazar was asking for her life story.
2.) He brooded. (Salazar maintains that he was not "brooding," though all other involved parties say he was, indeed, brooding.)
3.) Tried to get the measure of her powers and abilities by watching her surreptitiously. This worked until Helga, frustrated, hexed his hair an interesting shade of blue.
4.) As interrogation, brooding and stalking had failed, he resorted to hovering. Salazar was quite good at hovering. Helga's refusal to be intimidated was vexing.
5.) Tried to ignore her, or at least, stop letting her preoccupy his thoughts so often. He realized that he had failed when he heard her laughing in the Great Hall with Rowena and he tripped on the stairwell.
