Last minute paper writing--granted it is an easy, creative assignment for Crusades. I'm writing a delightfully cliche Christian romance. The nice thing about using typical tropes is that they all carry a certain meaning. The one thing Chaucer class has really taught me is the importance of genre and how to analyze it to see the cultural work it does. So I get to do lots of flowery description, write about chivalry, and talk about feats of arms. The prompt is that I'm a cleric writing a short story to be presented at the court of Louis IX; I'm supposed to motivate the reluctant barons into going on Crusade. The paper only has to be three pages max. Fabulous!
Had a not so fabulous day today or rather yesterday since it's past midnight. Got rejected again for a TA job. Not going to go into how upset and frustrated it made me. Went to Hobby Lobby to look at fabric and patterns for a dress I want to make for a Sakura cosplay. Then went to B-A-M bought coffee and a chocolate chunk cookie, browsed the store, sat and read vol. 18 of Tsubasa Chronicles. After finishing the volume, I decided to head back home and pay a visit to the BME to see if they had the vol. 19 & 20 of Tsubasa used. They didn't, so I went to Borders and bought them. Went home read them straight through.
Cleaned the kitchen floor. Put Lilly in "time-out" (the basement) for a while because she was behaving so badly. I think she had a serious case of cabin fever; I didn't let her out for most the day because it was raining. When I finished cleaning, I let her run around free of the leash in the backyard (granted, she was under close supervision) because it was nicer outside. She chased after a rabbit but couldn't catch it. I was struck by how many pretty flowers and plants are growing in the backyard. I never noticed them except for the Dahlia plant that was half dead. I guess it was because I moved in during the summer after all the flowers had bloomed and gone. It didn't help that there was a giant creeper vine covering more than half the yard.
Excited about the end of April when Dustin and I get to move into our new apartment! It's in Whispering Hills, close to Jefferson Mall. About the same distance to campus and work as from here; I just have to take a different route. The apartment is so nice, clean, and with lots of closet space! The area is quiet and well-maintained and cheap! And that's all for this epically long blog post about nothing really important.
