Too much
It was all too much. The angry words flowing around them, her wife’s icy glare, even more icy than usual and the sharp demand to go home… She just wanted to visit her in surprise.
And now that….
The brunette is lying on the cold hard floor of the elevator. The artificial lights nearly blind her eyes. Too much light.
There is noise, so loud she couldn’t hear anything. Too much noise.
Her head hurts, her arms, legs… everything. With a shaky hand she touched the huge bump of her belly. It feels like someone tries to tear it from the inside.
Oh no…. she thinks. Not now…
It’s too early. Three weeks too early. She felt another huge wave of pain ripping through her body. She wants to scream, but not a single sound comes out of her mouth. No cry for help.
Tears are welling up her eyes, she can’t blink them away. Too much tears.
Someone is coming, kneeling down besides her, she tries to look.
Glasses, bold, male… Nigel…
“Six, can you hear me? Andy, stay awake, talk to me. Emergency’s soon here. She’s on her way.” She hears his voice from far away, mixing with the noise around her.
Andy’s still trying to blink the tears away, the pain is unbearable. Another contraction hit her.
The world around her is bleary, like a vanishing dream. She can’t see the darkness lurking, preparing to consume her, but she can feel it.
She moves her lips, but nothing comes out; not a single sound. In the distance she tries to focus on the shimmering figures running towards her. She sees a flash of red, blonde and characteristically white hair. The white haired woman immediately drops to her knees, reaching for her hand while holding her head with the other. She says something to Nigel and he takes of his jacket, handles it to the woman and she put it under Andy’s head.
She can see her faces now: wide blue eyes are staring at her, scared, filled with tears.
Miranda. Miranda’s crying. Here, in front of her employees.
She says something to her, Andy still can’t understand. Too much pain.
Andy tries to concentrate, tries to speak, but she can only feel the huge pain inside her and a flood of wetness coming out between her legs.
Miranda looks at it with shock. “No…..” she says. “Oh god, no!”
Andy finally understands what she says. Miranda takes her and partly lifts Andy’s skirt. She’s in panic and Andy knows it.
“Why does that damn emergency take so long?” she hissed with her most dangerous voice.
When she removes her hand, Andy can see the stream of red wetness between her fingers.
Blood.
By the look of Miranda’s face there must be amount of it in the flood of fruit water on the floor. Too much blood.
Andy isn’t breathing normal anymore. She begins to hyperventilate. The pain, the noise, the lights, the blood, the desperate helpless look on Miranda Priestly’s face, her wife and the most controlled woman on this planet was simply too much. Andy knows she’s about to pass out.
The older woman returns to her face. “Andrea… Please stay awake, Andrea. Don’t leave me. Do you hear me? Everything will be alright. Just stay awake. Do hear me? Andrea?”
Andy fights to let her eyes stay open. She looks Miranda right into her face. She can’t help it, she has to smile.
Even now, with her blue orbs wide open, looking at her, scared, in sorrow, with tears falling down her cheeks, she’s the most beautiful woman Andy’s ever seen. The love of her life. Her wife and the mother of their child.
She caress her bump once more, feels the strong kicks of the little person inside her and she is sure that she regrets nothing.
She gave Miranda her most beautiful smile, squeezes her hand and says with a strong last effort:
“I….. love….. you…..”
It was nothing more than a whisper and she lost the battle to control her eyes.
She's so tired, closes her eyes and hears the heartbreaking sound of her name screamed by Miranda’s voice over and over again, when darkness finally falls all around her and everything stopped.
Too much darkness.
