A/N: Wrote this at like midnight after watching "Amends." It made sense when I wrote it, but the more I look at it now, the more I'm thinking, "Eh..." *shrug*
Her heart had been shattered by her husband’s murder years before. The loss she’d suffered had changed her so much in so many different ways, and she was a very different Alex Eames now than she had been then. Even after all this time, she was still only half a heart, painstakingly glued back together over a long stretch of time.
His heart, too, was only a barely-holding half. Between his history with a distant father, his mentally ill mother, and his estranged addict brother, his heart had never really had the love it needed to be structurally sound and complete. The emptiness of his life now, filled mostly with work, was only the final straw that kept his heart in its condition.
But broken hearts like theirs seemed inevitably attracted to one another. It was inexplicable in every way, impossible to define. But the reassembly of a broken heart was easier with someone to help.
And after all, even two broken halves could come together to form a whole.
