Get Over It: A post about animal cruelty

Jun 10, 2009 23:51

"How do you measure the value of 1 animal's life? I used to stomp snails while walking to school back when I was a kid. Is that different than stomping kitties? Are cats more alive than snails? Where do you draw the line? You see hundreds of people grieve when a whale beaches itself, but nobody cares about the sand crabs that are crushed underfoot as the swarms of self-righteous activists skitter around the sand trying to push that fat bastard of a whale back into the ocean. Is that whale's life worth more than the life of all those sand crabs?
When you harvest the fruit of an organic, pesticide-free orchard, millions of insects are killed in the process, bird nests are knocked out of trees, field mice burrows are crushed by the equipment, and the animals that used to live on the land are pushed further into the wilds by the expanding farm. How is this any different than killing and eating a cow?

No matter who you are, if you live, animals will die because of it. Get over it."
