Another upset at the Olympics. . .

I must say, I always find it slightly gratifying when the two "favorites" are upset by someone no one is making much of a fuss about. Now that they lost, however, I'm finding myself feeling sad for Cohen and Slutskaya. Sasha just hasn't learned how to skate under pressure! She always cracks! I couldn't believe it. And I have to feel bad for Slutskaya, even if she came off as a really bad loser. This is her absolute last chance, and she seems, off the ice anyway, like a sweet girl.

Arakawa's skate wasn't Sarah Hughes' of 2002, but it was really beautiful. Sasha does have more artistry and grace (you really can't beat Sasha's gorgeous spirals), but Arakawa had some really, really, tear-jerkingly lovely spins. Wow. She jumped cautiously, without much height or "oomph," and she didn't have the fiery energy or the graceful fluidity of Slutskaya's and Cohen's shorts. But she was lovely, and, out of the competition, she absolutely deserved her medal.

I'm not sure that, even if Irina had pulled off her free skate without the fall, Irina would've beat her. Sasha probably would have, but I'm not so sure Irina would. Irina was really. . . lacking. And she really needs a new fashion designer! (My goodness, though, was Sasha's dress gorgeous.)

In other news, what the heck was wrong with Miki Ando? Bouncing off the walls around the rink? Yikes.
