storm!
we interrupt our regularly scheduled programing for this announcement:
there was a lightning storm! damn, it was beautiful! got a phone call informing me of the event, and ten minutes later was in a car trying to get to the rose garden very, very quickly so as not to miss the show--i mean, storm. some very beautiful photographs resulted (i did not take them). we watched the storm, had to depart quite suddenly when the park closed, and went to another place--the top of some stairs most of the way up the hill from downtown--for more pictures. that was the best lightning storm i've seen since i was in costa rica, where there were daily storms, though the most spectacular was the night we landed, flying in at sunset and watching the lightning behind the hills from the window of the plane. i don't know if anything i've seen yet can beat that but this was pretty damn cool for somewhere that doesn't get near enough of those storms.
