Mr. Fox

The beginnings of yet another fairy tale adaptation...though I claim legitimacy in that this is actually for class.

Which tale is this from? I don't recognize it, though I probably just haven't read it.

It might feel less clumsy if you fleshed that part out more--as it is, I'm assuming, sort of the beginning of the story--describe her sneaking out to the barn, saddling her horse, telling it to be quiet when the stableboy walks past & she has to duck & hide; tell us how cold it was outside, whether it was raining, how many layers she had to wear to keep warm...&c.

Are you coming to Seattle at all during break?

Thanks...that will help I think. It's from Mr. Fox, which is an English version of the Robber Bridegroom, which is similar to Bluebeard, just without the key and the chamber of blood and all. Her name is Mary in that one, I think...she goes to the house, he's not there, he comes in dragging a pretty maiden, whom he kills rather brutally and while trying to get a ring off her finger, cuts off the finger which flies off at the force of the axe and lands in Mary's lap. She runs home, and at the wedding party tells the story as a dream to the company and an increasingly nervous Mr. Fox, until she pulls out the finger, at which point her brothers and other male guests either kill Mr Fox or bring him to the authorities.
Anyway...
I'll be coming up to Seattle on Friday or Saturday and returning the following friday...will you be around?

Thank you. I shall do this.
I shall also have to ask my professor if it is alright if I turn in a much longer piece than the length assigned. Which is alright. Speaking of which, I was curious, do you know if a Maria Tatar still teaches in the German department at Harvard? Because we have a lot of her books assigned for my class.
