Tonight's GG was perfection. Which makes me so sad. I loved every second of it. And yet there's only one real Gilmore Girls episode left. Yes there will still be Gilmores and Stars Hollow and Luke and Logan and townies, but there won't be any Palladinos who are the voices of those characters anymore. And that makes me sad. I started off not liking this season much, but with rewatching it I've gained a new appreciation for it and think it's pretty great. I think it takes watching it all over to actually get what they're trying to do. Now it's going to be over. But tonight was perfect.
The opening Friday night dinner was so hysterical and great. Lorelai with her meatball, Emily clearing the table and Richard's not even made it there yet, too funny. Then them deciding to endow a building in Rory's name, way too funny. I miss FNDs. That's my main complaint of this season, not enough of the entire Gilmore clan together, they are what drives this show.
OK so I didn't care for the Jackson/Sookie drug stash storyline. But that's mainly to do with Jackson and he's my least favorite character on the show. Along with TJ, but I liked TJ tonight. The TJ/Luke/Liz storyline was sweet. I appreciated Liz's doubts. And it's sad, but very real, that Luke could see what their problems are but not figure out what torture Lorelai's been in these last few months.
The Emily/Lorelai stuff was just beautiful. I've been assuming all along that the house would be for Luke & Lorelai. IMO what Emily wants first and foremost is Lorelai happy and in her life. Yes she would like someone she thinks is more appropriate than Luke, which is her right, but once she decided Lorelai really loved Luke and wanted to make a life with him, she accepted. She'd like more grandkids, and not have with them the same relationship she had with Rory initially. I watched the pilot on ABCFamily yesterday and that's a really good episode to see where they've all come from to this one. And on a more shallow note, Kelly Bishop looks sooooo much better now than she did then it's not even funny. And the house was beautiful. Emily & Richard had obviously put a lot of thought into buying this house, making sure it had things for both Luke & Lorelai, not making it be something that they would want, but something for the recipients. Which I think shows how much they really do love Lorelai no matter how much all of them bicker.
Oh and Lorelai seemed a bit jealous or off put at Emily trying to set up Christopher. Which is interesting. I don't hate Christopher, but he's been a crappy dad to Rory. I do however find his redemption a bit too easily greased by his windfall. I do prefer his having more appreciation for what Lorelai had to do with much less for Rory, since he chose to not be there for him when she wouldn't get married.
But Lorelai breaking down and admitting in front of Emily that the wedding, and of course she means much more, isn't going to happen, and Emily's hand on her shoulder. So amazing and wonderful. That's a long way they've come.
The Rory/Logan stuff was funny & sweet, and I loved him counseling her about Mitchum's quote about her. The preview looks so sad! :( But I think it really showed how much they do love one another, she wouldn't be so over protective of him if she didn't care so much. And he was cute with his wanting to show progress. Plus the siccing on him of Paris & Doyle was hilarity itself. Waaaaaaayyyyyyy too funny. I can't imagine waking up groggy to Paris reciting male parts or Doyle generally. Then their spazzing over March of the Penguins, too cute.
Really this episode was just perfect. Which is so sad.
