i didn't go to my prom

I'm not sure what to say about this episode, I wanted to love it more than I did. I liked it. Mostly of course the Rory/Logan stuff, but with him out of it all but two scenes it didn't do quite what I was hoping. Also since this is episode was written, as much as any episode is written by anyone not The Ps while they're still in charge, by the guy that's taking over the show next season, I wanted it to kick ass in every department, but it didn't.
  • Alexis Bledel needs someone to play off of. I think the Paris scene, which their conversations I loved, would have worked better had they switched to Paris laying into the doctor & nurse.
  • LOVED her telling off Colin & Finn, who for the first time ever weren't working for me. But then they weren't supposed to so I guess that was the correct reaction
  • LOVED her telling off Mitchum, which was the only Rory by herself scene that worked. But what a waste of Gregg Henry.
  • Convo with Lorelai was great.
  • The hair sweep, so sweet.
  • the party was fun, but way too much time was spent on it
  • Anna is Luke's Lorelai 1.0, could they have been more anvilishious tonight? They've been moving that direction for a while, but tonight with the mommy rules and all, just HUGE!
  • Sookie & Lorelai were cute
  • The Pretty in Pink thing was so funny.
  • Michel was some welcome comic relief.
  • Miss Patty was ever so sad.
  • ETA ~ SHIRA WENT TO A SPA!?!?!?!?
The convo between the Rory & Logan at the end was just fantastic. But it leads me to that I think the point of the episode though was to show two couples going in different directions, and how much harder it is for people who have missed chances for a long time rather than ones that are discovering together. Rory & Logan because they're young and not at all set as far as their lives, expectations, who they are as people haven't had as hard of a time dealing with adversity as have Luke & Lorelai.

Rory & Logan come to forks, roadblocks, adversity, they grow, adapt & change. They're not perfect of course so they have problems, they react at times wrongly, hurt one another, but they seem to learn from their mistakes, and want to be together. Luke deals with Christopher by shutting out Lorelai last season. He doesn't come to any great epiphany on his own, Emily prompts him to get Lorelai back. Now with April he shuts out Lorelai, not for a valid reason such as Anna had, and that I got and while she was a bit harsh I know Lorelai got it as well, but because he doesn't want to be liked less than Lorelai by April. I found his reasoning so very selfish. And harsh. And just ever so wrong.

Logan on the other hand reacts badly to Jess, is an ass and in the end breaks up with Rory. He's also dealing with other stuff as well, which makes him overreact. So we start at the same place. But Logan after screwing up more reaches his own epiphanies and goes all out to win Rory back on his own. Would Luke eventually have done the same? We'll never know, but he's incredibly stubborn. And since there's some time leap between WBB & S...GT I'm not sure how long it took Logan v how long it took Luke to take Emily's advice.

I think part of what I didn't like with this episode was it made me sad. The L/L stuff, while not my thing, is just sad to watch. Because it's so two people that both deserve to be happy, but seem to have no idea how to deal with the hard stuff, at least not in a relationship. The only person Lorelai's ever dealt with hard stuff for is Rory. It starts with going to Emily & Richard in 1.01. Really it starts with turning her back on them and living in a potting shed and becoming a maid. For Rory sacrifice and hardship will happen, and while I'm not saying I don't think she would do the same for Luke, nor him for her, I'm just not sure either one has a clue how. They've both avoided all that stuff their entire adult life.

Which is why though I think she loves Luke, to me there's no such thing as romantic soulmates on this show. The love of Lorelai's life is Rory.

With that I'll get back to my latest mood theme project I'm working on with scout27.
