Heyyy just got back from a good day out with Lian and Kah Wei. After a long week at work, it feels good to kick back and relax. Plus sleeping in late was shiok! Well not as late as i wanted. LOL! My sis gave me a call at 11 plus. Yeahhh i know that's pretty late already but i was hoping to snooze thru till 12.30. :P
We went window shopping~! Stuck mainly at Plaza Singapura cos we wanted to have dinner at the Manhatten Fish Market. Yummmm yum! If you ever go there, i highly recommend this bagette(sp?) with garlic sauce. It's delish!!!!! You dip the bagette in this really great sauce and it's heavenly. And of cos the platter for 2 is a must. Actually you should share it with 3 or more ppl cos the portions are huge! The "for 2" part is bullshit unless you're a really big eater.
We had a hilarious discussion about the mafia today! It started when i was telling them about my recent manga obsession "Viewfinder". I posted a lot of pics about it in a few entries back. Hahaha sorry but i'm gonna talk abit more abt it again. So basically i was telling them about this hilarious comment one person made. She said that she's so sick that Japanese ppl are so uncreative with chinese names, and everyone and their mothers are called Feilong or Fei Shuan or fei something. Hahahahahaha~!!!!!! Personally i think most non-chinese seem to think we're all called Lee or Wong. Omg is there no other chinese names they noe??? LOL! And we went on to say that mebbe we should start naming all Japanese ppl Yamazaki and Takeshi and Ayumi instead. Buahahaha!
Well in Viewfinder, there's a guy called Feilong and he's a leader of the HK mafia. So this started my whole discussion on the mafia/gangster images in different countries. Plus the difference btwn a mafia and gangster. Omg pls beware of stereotyping ahead!
In my view, a mafia person is different from a gangster. My image of gangsters are bunch of rough looking characters with loads of tattoos, running around the streets, picking fight with other gangs and bullying any weak targets they can find. I'm thinking of gangs running about in alleyways, motorcycles, chains and steel pipes as weapons, and really bad hairstyles. Hahahaha! Whereas someone from the mafia(or triad or yakuza which is the Japanese mafia) is someone really polish, wealthy, wears dark armarni suits and sunglasses, rides around in expensive black cars with tinted windows, and have real power over politicians and other influential ppl. Hahahaha! Yes that's my view because that's how they're usually portrayed in movies, tvs and books. ZOMG i do like the tinted windows bit. Hahaha!
So in the chain of command, gangsters probably rate pretty low on the power chain. They're only terrorizing small areas which they deem as theirs, and dun really have much power over anyone except the local ppl. They still run from the police too. Below them are probably loan sharks, since they're mainly money lenders and collectors, and play with chicken heads and paint. Hahahaha! In fact they're not even that strong now, since their new tools are markers and pens. The really "intimidating" O$P$ (Owe money pay money) scribbles on the wall are soooo "effective". Hahahahahahaha!!!!! <-- this is the Singapore loan sharks i'm tokking about.
However, mafias are like the CEOs in gangster-world. They have ppl of high power and probably the law-enforcers in their pockets, they ride around in style, dress well, live in expensive places and uses guns instead of pocket knives and chains. In fact the big bosses dun even get involved in the dirty work, they just send someone to do it for them. Hahahaha!
I'm sorry if i'm stereotyping. I'm saying all this based on my pre-conceived notion. It may not even be anywhere near the truth.
Oh and i am sooo evil about what i think of different countries' gangs. Once again, all based on my own opinion. My version:
Hong Kong: As mentioned before, really well-dressed in black suits, the required dark glasses, many bodyguards around the 'bosses' and probably look like ppl from MIB. Rich rich rich.
Singapore: Omg CMI! Punks in singlets/punky shirts and shorts(or baggy pants), flip-flops, ugly tattoos, multi-colored and weirdly styles hair, piercings, and usually squats at some corner making horrible noises at passerby. Tends to get into fights just because "you look at me, i look at you. I dun like the way you look at me, so i fight with you" kind of reasons. Blah!
Taiwan: According to lian, they wear loud flowery shirts, shorts, and like their politicians, tend to throw furnitures around. Ikea anyone? Hahahahah! Oh and apparently they like to hang around in night clubs chasing after loose women. Omg!
Italian: In fact the word mafia refers to the Italian gang, but i'm using it as a general name for all. I'm thinking of the whole Godfather bit. Old men in expensive suits, smoking cigars, staying in expensive hotels and mansions, and probably has some violin playing menacing music in the background. Hahaha omg this view is totally influenced by hollywood movies. :P
Japanese: I'm not too sure about this. My inital image is that they're similar to the HK version. And i did a search on this! Omg guess wat? According to Wikipedia: Today, the yakuza are the largest organized crime phenomenon in the world, as noted in the Guinness Book of Records. Whooaaaa!!!!! So fierce! Those who wanna read more, click
here.
Erm...i dun have any other notions. Haha these are the few countries that i tend to consider. The others are either less popularised or i'm just unaware of them.
Omgg see see! He even has the dark sunglasses! If the mafia guys really look like this, can i be one too? Hahahaha! *drools*
Ahem...ok enuf about mafias. I'm afraid i'm gonna get hunted down if one ever reads my journal. Kekeke! They'll might go "WTF bitch! You forgot to mention that we're handsome and wear bling-blings as well!" *bashbash* @_@
We watched the new Pixar movie Cars! Initally we wanted to watch it in town but you won't believe how packed it is there! Omg everywhere is crowds crowds crowds. It's sickening. That's why i dislike going there on a weekend. But it can't be help since i'm working. ~sigh~
It's basically about this rookie racing car McQueen and he's set to race in the Piston Cup event which is supposedly very big in car-world. But he gets lost, ends up in a forgotten dusty town where he meets lots of cute and likeable characters. There he learns a lesson of what it is to be happy, humble and to have real friends.
This is a real feel-good show, but then so are all of Pixar's movies. It's pretty good actually. The animation is gorgeous! Their sceneries of trees and canyons and roads are all beautiful and realistic. I am in awe of the amazing team at Pixar! I bow to their supreme patience to do all those details. Plus i like the characters of the cars. They're pretty believable.
I did find some part a tad slow, like those romantic drives McQueen has with the female car he likes, but other than that it's really funny. There are alot of small hidden jokes you have to be pretty quick to catch. For instance:
McQueen: I'm telling you, he's a racer! He won 3 Piston Cups!
Another car: *spits* He did what in his cups??!!
Muahahahaha! Get it? Omg! It was really quick and i barely got wind of it, but so damn cute!
You will LOVE the flies in the show. Yup i said flies. They're mini cars with wings! Ahahahaha so damn cute!!! And i luv the small french mechanic car! He changes the tires for McQueen during a race and all the other cars are laughing at him cos he's so small and he works alone. Usually there are 3-4 cars helping at the pitstop of the race. And this little dude just did an amazingly QUICK and stylo way of changing McQueen's tires! Omg he flips the 4 tires in the air and change them 1 2 3 4 like that! Hahahaha all the other cars went "DOH"!! I luv that scene!
Nice touching moments sprinkled everywhere, weird car-cows(yup cows), and a nice sweet ending. Typical happy ending but i still like it. And there's a hilarious bit at the end where they spoof on all the other movies Pixar made! The cars were at a movie watching previous Pixar shows, and everyone was a car too! Hahahah so there was Toy Story with a car Woody, Buzz and Mr. Pig(SOOOO freaking funni!), a car Monster's Inc, and even a car A bug's Life! Waahahahahahah!
Oh and if you do watch this show, stay till the end of the credits. There's some extra bit right at the end. ^_^
