The curse of Writer's Block and a book review by yours truly

Woo-hoo! It's late at night (well, early in the morning), and I'm trying to finish up my stargate atlantis fanfic and have hit major writer's block. Who would have thought writing a death scene would be so hard (bwaahaahahaaa)!

I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday and got some good books with the gift card the people at the library gave me. i got 'the Giver' (one of my favorite books), 'Ivanhoe' (*the* greatest book of all time: read it!), and 'Who Were the Celts?'. Really interesting history there.

Did you know that the Celts probably originated in the area now known as Austria and migrated all over the place, ending up as widespread as Ireland and Turkey? In fact, the Galatians of Turkey (the ones Paul wrote the book of the Bible to) were a Celtic race. And the English, despite their opression of the Irish, have a lot of Celtic blood themselves. The English people today are a mix of Celts/Romans/Angles/Jutes/Saxons/Norsemen/and Normans(difference!). Talk about a mixed breed.

Not that many people care about stuff like that, but i find it very interesting.

Back to Ivanhoe: great book! It's about the enmity between the Anglo-Saxons and the Normans during the time of the Crusades. It's full of characters everyone knows, like King Richard Coeur-de-Lyon, Prince John, and Robin Hood. There's romance, chivalry, tournaments, sieges, and battles. There is anti-Semitism, but it is shown in a bad light and one of the coolest characters in the Jewess Rebecca who one of the Templar knights pathetically fawns over. And for you LOTR fans, the bit between Rowena and Ivanhoe reminds me a great deal of Eowyn and Faramir. Just to entice you.

Boy I need to go to sleep. Yet I shall not until the time is right, for i refuse to heed the call of the pillow until I have written a bit more of my fanfic. Writer's block shall not overcome me and in the end I shall prevail!
