Massachusetts election results...
Question 1, which seeks to repeal a tax on alcohol, passed. I don't find alcohol a necessity and thus is a luxury item and there's no reason it shouldn't be taxed. And lord knows the state needs more money to fund things like public schools. (See: Question 3)
Question 2, which seeks to make affordable housing funding more difficult, did not pass. The only reason my mother owns a house right now is because of affordable housing. She's a single working mother and that helped her, and me, growing up. I grew up in a wonderful neighbourhood and will inherit a house in the far future. I'm for affordable housing!
Question 3, which seeks to lower the sales tax from 6.25% to 3%, did not pass. That was much much too low to go in one fell swoop. If they'd tried to go back to 5%, it would have passed. My issue is that the state agencies need to be funded and taxes help do that. I teach at a public school. We don't get enough money as it is, the last thing we need are more budget cuts, so I'm very pleased this didn't pass.
