Trade deadline day always upsets me.

The Chicago Cubs trade LHP Ted Lilly and infielder Ryan Theriot to the Los Angeles Dodgers for infielder Blake DeWitt, RHP Brett Wallach and RHP Kyle Smit. I was shopping when I got that text and I gasped out loud. I hate it. Ryan Theriot is supposed to be playing with Mike Fontenot in Chicago. Blake DeWitt is supposed to be playing in LA. This trade is horrible. I couldn't care less about Ted Lilly because I hate that the other parts of this deal were dealt. Blake has tried so hard to earn the spot he has, he deserves to stay there. Says our GM: "Of all the times I've had to tell a player he was traded, this was one of the toughest telling Blake DeWitt," Colletti added. "His professionalism, his passion and who he is made doing this one of the toughest moves I've made." [Source] Neither of the two Dodgers in my icon are Dodgers anymore. I am sad.

The Kansas City Royals trade Outfielder Rick Ankiel and RHP Kyle Farnsworth to the Atlanta Braves for outfielder Gregor Blanco RHP Jesse Chavez and LHP Tim Collins. I think I remember liking Rick Ankiel, but he didn't blip my radar all that much. And I know Farnsworth is... well, do we really need him? Jesse Chavez hasnt' been effective since he was a Pirate, but such is the case for many of their trades. Gregor Blanco was always an also ran, so I don't see missing him too much. I'm not jumping up and down about this trade, but I'm not upset either. It just is.

The Pittsburgh Pirates trade RHP Octavio Dotel to the Los Angeles Dodgers for RHP James McDonald and outfielder Andrew Lambo. Octavio Dotel was good, years ago. So was Rafael Soriano. That doesn't mean he's good now. Anyone is better than George Sherrill, but I don't know that this won't be just like the Braves' fling with Soriano last season. But I don't mind giving up James McDonald to find out. He certainly was good, but we need a set-up man for Jonathan Broxton.

The Texas Rangers traded Jarrod Saltalamacchia to the Boston Red Sox for first baseman Chris McGuiness and pitcher Roman Mendez. Jarrod was sent down to Pawtucket after this trade. That would be the Pawtucket where Kason Gabbard is now pitching. Fate follows them around and causes these trades to happen. That being said, I'm actually glad for this, in a way. Depending on what happens with Jason Varitek retiring or not, I might even want to see him up next year. At any rate, I like having him in Pawtucket and this trade made me smile.

The Boston Red Sox have traded Ramon Ramirez to the San Francisco Giants, designated outfielder Jeremy Hermida for assignment, recalled outfielder Ryan Kalish and LHP Dustin Richardson from Triple-A Pawtucket. I like all of this. I'm sick of Ramirez and Hermida and they've been given enough chances to make mistakes. They made too many. I'm glad we're giving some kids a chance and I hope they do well until we can get some of our DL people back.
