"My one major complaint about the second game is that it just feels as if they half-assed it, and stupidly glossed over important details. You don't even have to go to Pride Rock to complete the game. And I just LOVE how Sora finds out that he is sealed up in some kind of mysterious pod thingy for an entire year, with no memory of how he got there (as well as everyone else losing their memories of him even existing) and his basic reaction is "lol what?" and he just carries on as if nothing happened. Fucking fantastic writing there guys. And I also love how Sora doesn't need any reason to go after the nobodies he's just told "they're bad, go kill em" and he just proceeds to slaughter them all in a mass genocidal fury. Brilliant work guys."
fuck yeah
"Kingdom hearts is composed of mnay worlds which are in fact worlds/planets, but these planets exist in a universe that is split between light and dark realms. The realms are referred to as the "worlds" of light and darkness but in actuality they aren't really worlds. There ARE world-like places in the space of kingdom hearts that don't seem to be worlds, but they actually are.
Part of why I hated kingdom hearts 2, aside from its countless other problems, was the way they fucked up the lore and mythology behind how the worlds work. Mickey kept saying the world of darkness was a nessecity but they never once gave any reasoning for it, and the first game very clearly showed that the world of darkness wasn't good for you and that trying to use dark power would eventually have negative effects on you regardless of whether or not your heart is in the right place, as shown by Riku in both games. They tried to make it seem meaningful but the 2nd game threw out the moral and mythological points of the first game for flashy bullshit that made no sense."
how did this conversation start as a treasure planet discussion?
"One thing the 2nd game DID do right was show that each world is either part of the realm of dark or the realm of light. Twilight town was a world that literally existed between the two realms, while the "End of the World" from the first game was a world that was made from the fragmented parts of worlds that had been taken by the heartless and they circled the door to kingdom hearts, and it was very clearly a world within the dark realm."
"To be fair, it was Yen Sid who gave him the orders.
Yen Sid is like Disney's Optimus Prime. If he says "Jump" you say "How high?" because you know he's right about whatever it is he's talking about."
"Yea, there were a lot of reasons why I ended up hating kh2, but the main aspect of it was the shitty writing and horrendous use of Disney and final fantasy properties. Hell, even after seeing all the story material from final mix and peicing the story together in my mind over and over until I understood it completely, its a badly written piece of shit. Roxas whole purpose in the game was to be alseep inside Sora the whole time without any reaction, then when Axel dies it affects Soras heart and Roxas wakes up, then he fights you just to test what kind of person you are, and thats it. All the build up for him just so he could end up as a pointless boss fight. There are so many shitty examples of this kind and not enough time to list all of it in one setting."
"Also, where the fuck was Yen Sid when malificent showed up and why wasn't he helping you out every now and then throughout the story? He was built up to be this important powerful wizard who knows a lot about the way the worlds work and you never see him again after he gives you the details of the nobodies and heartless."
"Don't get me wrong, there were a lot of concepts and gamplay options I LOVED about KHII. I thought that the Nobodies were an awesome concept, as well as the entire begining part with Roxas. The battle mechanics were awesome (though a bit too reliant on the Triangle functions, and FAR too easy) and the Drives were great. And, even though it's a minor thing, I love to see magical armour that is made out of cloth.
it's just that a lot of it was poorly executed. Was it the same creative team that worked on both games? Because there did seem to be a difference, to me."
"I think they just tried to cram too much into one game. We had the Nobodies, Org XIII, Maleficent, the fate of the worlds, the remaining members of the Disney Villains, Roxas, Namine...
It's really the same problem Spider-Man 3 had. They went for quantity over quality.
Now, I really did love the game. People say the controls were too simplistic, but I frankly love running headstrong into a horde of enemies and mashing the buttons to finish them off. I thought the controls were fantastic, and the fighting style Sora used was really cool to just look at.
What I would love to see in KHIII is a connection between the Disney worlds. I want to see them much more involved in the plot. Maybe Genie, being over a thousand years old, knows something about the Keyblade's past? Something like that."
"My hate for kh2 is BECAUSE it had the potential to be better than the first and with all the time they spent making it and all the hype it seemed as though that would happen. The first game had a great lore and mythology set up for its worlds and charcters and I thought the 2nd game would expand on it in a good way. I LOVED kh2 after you faced Axel the 2nd time, that boss fight was awesome. I choose the defensive options during those weapon choose parts just so I could have gaurd early on like in the first game. Then I got to Axel with two keyblades and I was preparing to block an attack he was about to use, and my block was ANOTHER ATTACK BUTTON. As cheesy as it was that shit made me excited and I completely forgot about counters and dodging and everything, I just lept at him and started wailing on his ass. Even with the stuff in the bgeinning that didnt seem to kake sense, I felt as though all would be explained by the end and i just went with it. When you first use Sora he even has a nicer sword combo that looks and feels more refined than the first game, as though he actually got better with time. The game didnt actually go downhill until you go to your first Disney world, then it falls apart little by little until you get to the end and cant stop wondering why the hell you just cut buildings in half with a blunt weapon and why the game overall felt less satisfying than the first. From there the dissapointment slowly turns into hatred and thats why my mindset is how it is right now."
"the game broke the fourth wall too much, in the sense that a fucking talking duck would drop out of the sky and no one would give a fucking damn, thats failing as far as rpgs go. you should interact with the worlds, not walking amidst them."
"Yep, horrible writing at its finest. Especially since Jack Sparrow of all people didn't start freaking out at these characters that are hybrid human-animals and don't even look real suddenly popping out of nowhere with magic and a giant key. The interaction in the game was some of the worst shit ive ever seen."
"Well, Xenmas is stronger story-wise because of his deep influence over dark power and nobodies, but if you're going for in game ability then Sephiroth is more powerful. It wasn't written well anyways so power difference is kind of annoying to look at in that game."
"Oh don't get me fucking started on that! With all of there bullshit about "preserving the world order" and Prime Directive-like non-interference, they just show up in a totally normal world as anthropomorphic dogs and birds? What the hell. And no-one even notices!? I just couldn't fucking take that world seriously after that. I was just constantly thinking "there is a GIANT DOG talking to you, why the hell are you okay with this?". I mean in KH, when in Atlantis they pretend to be from some far-away sea so as not to reveal the fact that there is a bunch of inter-dimensional travellers wandering about killing manifestations of pure evil with a heart-powered superweapon."
"Meh. Pretend that the Final Mix data versions of the Organization are how they're actually are. Xemnas actually does some damage, even if it's just the same shield, slash, slash pattern over and over. Xaldin rapes the fuck out of you.
Fuck Nomura inserting Sephiroth into everything, though. There are other characters you can use from Final Fantasy or even Disney, you fucking hack."
"That is true, my guess is that sephiroth is generally more popular among FF fans or even KH fans.
And he got a big sword to compensate for a small dick because he is japanise and all."
"But those people are retards with no criteria besides BADASS LOL!
I probably wouldn't have minded if there were other optional bosses, like the first game had the Ice Titan and two Heartless bosses.
This time around, it's just more FFVII bullshit, because the crappy movie and some shitty spin-off games aren't enough."
"BA-KAWK!"
