Summary: Arthur100 prompt "Homage" on arphwoar.

Based on the Dictionary.com definition for Homage: the formal public acknowledgment by which a feudal tenant or vassal declared himself to be the man or vassal of his lord, owing him fealty and service.

Arthur100 version:

Arthur stood before his throne; his ermine robes the richest in the land, his crown contrastingly unpretentious. He appeared tall, straight and regal. All those assembled knew he would appear the same regardless of his dress or surroundings. This was a warrior king who had been the only man able to unite the rulers of Albion under one sovereign.

Those rulers had just come, one by one, to kneel before Arthur and pledge their allegiance. Now only one man remained.

“I give you my oath, King Arthur of Camelot. All that I have I give into your command.”

Arthur smiled.

And, because I seriosly had to cut this down from the original version I wrote, the Extended version:

Arthur stood before his throne; his ermine robes the richest in the land, his crown contrastingly unpretentious. He appeared tall, straight and regal. All those assembled knew he would appear the same regardless of his dress or surroundings. No longer the prince desperate for his father’s approval, Arthur was now a King in his own right; a warrior king who had been the only man able to unite the rulers of Albion under one sovereign.

Those rulers had just come, one by one, to kneel before Arthur and pledge their allegiance. Now only one man remained, his robes as rich as those of the King before him - indeed, they were from the same source - and his power glowing in his golden eyes. Merlin didn’t kneel; he looked into Arthur’s eyes and made a pledge with more than his words.

“I give you my oath, King Arthur of Camelot. I have no army, no wealth, and no land, but all that I have I give into your command.” Which was all the power of the greatest wizard in the land.

For no reason other than the fact that it was Merlin, Arthur smiled.
