Long time no see...

It's been ages since I updated here. I've had sort of a crafting burn-out, I think. After I finished chigrimas gift I haven't really felt like doing anything. I have knit a little of this and a little of that. But I haven't finished much, and almost all new projects I've tried to start have gone badly.

I did manage to make a new skirt for New Year's, and it's rather pretty. But it's flawed and I'm not very happy about it really. It fits weirdly, and I should have adjusted that instead of finished it as-is. But it's purple and has masses of black lace on it. (Besides, I hope it will be too big soon anyway.) So, okay but not much of a success.

That is pretty much the story of every project I tried recently:

Kiri adaptation Pattern:Kiri (Link opens as pdf) Frogged and restarted; have turned into a Rectangular wrap in rice stitch. Slowly but steadily coming along. This has turned into a rectangular wrap in basketweave. The rice stitch curled worse than stockinette. Since I couldn't find anything that both worked and was pretty and fun to knit, I had to go with basketweave. Which I don't particularly like, but it's better than 200x80 cm of seed stitch...

Green Elf Girl Pattern as above, with pointy ears and possibly tail. Green cotton yarn. Started, the body of the doll is almost finished. Finished the body, and actually managed to make a better head shape than the usual, which means she can get a mohawk. But it's my fifth, possibly sixth, doll, and I need a break. So I actually took the needles out to use in another project, which means she has reached UFO status instead of merely being a WIP...

Socks Black wool toe-up socks with lace patterned legs. Probably Feather and fan pattern, but haven't decided yet. Must do that soon though, I'm gonna need woolen socks in my boots, since they are both steel-capped and holey. Not started. I have started, but they are boooring to knit... And the heel is giving me trouble. Also, I'm dreaming of better/funnier sock yarn... Shiny purple yarn!(Bloody expensive, though...)

Mittens In black wool, 3-ply stash yarn.I need a pair of mittens, but these aren't working out I think. Made a swatch; need a rethink. I need these, I have no good mittens. But I have no yarn that works, either. The black yarn I have feels like rope. Everything else is the wrong colour. Makes me sad. And cold.

Fingerless mitts In blue-purple-green variegated laceweight wool from Ullcentrum. Planned because my old purple ones have disappeared, and winter is upon us... Not started. I have found the purple ones, but they are nearly worn out. But nothing works when I try to make swatches, plus this yarn is really, really itchy.

Add "the children of Mothra, part III" to this, and you get a very cranky crafter. Remember the shawl I wore on New Year's? Made in the same yarn I've tried to make fingerless mitts from? When I took it out of the closet, there were a big, round hole in it. Definitely moths, and they have invaded my clothes too. The yarn stash was bad enough... *sigh* I don't like this at all.

But, I think I have broken my crafting slump at least. Screw knitting what I "should"! I want lace! So I decided to start something entirely unnecessary:

Table cloth Pattern either Coronet or Azalea from "First book of modern lace knitting" by Marianne Kinzel, haven't decided yet. Light purple cotton. Not started. I decided to make "Azalea", in the biggest size. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough yarn for this, so I had to make the next size down. Some small screw-ups did happen, but it was actually fun anyway. I felt like knitting was restful, and fun, and, well, made me feel good. That haven't happened in at least a month, so it was wonderful. So wonderful, in fact, that I finished it in two nights. It's currently pinned out and drying.

The joy of finishing it being slightly diminished by the fact that I now had nothing fun on my needles, I spent an afternoon surfing for patterns yesterday. So last night I cast on for this:Fanødugen in a burgundy cotton yarn. After I finish that, tomorrow or Tuesday that is, I have more patterns lined up.

It feels so incredibly wonderful to have the crafting bug back. *grins* I have no idea whether I'll ever use the doilies, but they are soo much fun to knit, I don't care!
