EPILOGUE
---
The tension in the air was hovering over the two like dark clouds before the rain.
They just stood there, both not moving an inch. They could almost hear the echo of Hangeng’s accusation before. Besides the chilly night breeze from the windows along the hallway, there was nothing else, no sound of anyone breathing though both hearts beat as if they were trying to break out from their ribs.
One was confused, not sure what was going on. His hands were breaking off cold sweat but he remained composure though an overwhelming feeling of being caught red handed engulfed him. Everything that night was so wrong, somehow, he felt. He was only hurting Heechul by appearing; what if Heechul saw him. Siwon didn’t know but his instinct told him, Heechul didn’t know he was still alive.
Maybe Heechul would feel better thinking that but now that he appeared at his doorstep, how much would it hurt Heechul?
The other one was filled with rage; he clenched his fist and glared at the man who stood in front of his apartment. Suddenly, he felt restless; Heechul was in one way or another, related to Heechul. The feeling to avenge his parents mixed with the, oddly, a feeling of jealousy. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, Hangeng’s revenge must be taken. But the jealousy that was unnecessary but it was there in him.
How long did Choi Siwon know Heechul? Who was Choi Siwon to Heechul? Did he come to see Heechul?
Of course; there was no other reason for Choi Siwon to appear at their apartment. Hangeng started doubting, trying to recall back if Siwon ever came to their apartment to meet Heechul. The relationship between Hangeng and Heechul was never really officially said out but it was there, did that automatically make Siwon the third person in the relationship? Or was Hangeng the third party?
Amidst the tension, Hangeng’s hand slowly went to his back. His fingers made contact with the cold metal in the holster. He kept his eyes locked with Choi Siwon’s while slowly pulling out the gun. The gun made Hangeng feel the authority; he was in charge, no matter how great the leader of Bailong, Hangeng was having the better hand with the gun.
Siwon watched as the stranger pull out a familiar object from behind, it was something Siwon never thought he would see again pointed at him. He caught a glimpse of the badge on his belt when his jacket was lifted.
A cop.
Siwon then realized he did not bring out his gun with him. He was too absorbed in the plan to sneak out to Heechul that he forgotten his gun. Plus, he didn’t want Eunhyuk to see him carry a gun, even when he was just going to meet a ‘friend’.
Who is that man? Siwon asked himself, questioning himself and scanning through mental images of cops he had encountered as the leader. Bailong was doing only legal business at the moment; the latest underground business was the assassination that was passed to Kibum to carry out. Shindong reported that there was no faulty in the mission, no suspicion whatsoever so who was the man in front of him then, about to point a gun right at him.
Suddenly, he heard the gun safe unlock.
“Choi Siwon…” the cop gritted through his teeth, it sounded almost like a hiss.
The last time he heard his name being called so boldly was when he was shot years ago. He ended up losing Heechul and everyone in the world outside of Bailong. What was he losing this time? He himself wasn’t even sure why he was feeling so hopeless, he was giving up already? The feeling of losing everything all over again was grave.
“Who are you?” Siwon managed to say, the memories of being shot the last time played in his mind too fast, repeatedly, emphasizing on the expression Heechul wore when he saw Siwon in a bloody state. If the man really wanted to shoot Siwon, what kind of expression would Siwon see on Heechul?
“Hyung, it hurts…” he said, barely a gurgle.
“Shh…shh… it’s going to-” a hic “-be okay, Siwonnie…”
“You know hyung, there’s no such thing as reincarnation for me…” he said, looking for Heechul’s reaction.
“Shut up Siwonnie, you pay attention to staying alive. Jesus wants you to be here with me, you’re not done lecturing me into converting yet…” Heechul said and couldn’t help but to put up a smile at the older male’s attempt to calm him.
Siwon smiled a pained smile and Heechul gripped his hand in both of his tighter, one hand pressing on the wound on his abdomen, blood seeping through the fabric and Siwon saw Heechul flinch when he felt the crimson liquid.
Not long after the ambulance came, the EMT in charge didn’t allow Heechul onto the ambulance as they strapped Siwon onto the stretcher.
That was the last time Siwon saw Kim Heechul.
“Someone who wants you dead…” the man said. The first thing that jumped to Siwon’s mind was the ungrateful avaricious right hand man of his father, Yang Ho-min. Could he be one of his followers? But the man in front of him with a gun was a cop.
Hangeng’s finger slowly reached the trigger.
The tension was still in the air was hovering over the two like dark clouds before the rain…
