Alright then. Middle Earth, Mercedes Lackey, and Artemis Fowl.. meet my brain.
I kid you not, that was what the dream was like this morning. It took place at my gramma's -- a nice li'l duplex almost in the middle of BFE. The only difference there was that there was some government agency there and I was some sort of minion. No clue as to why but I was fighting the Fae. Now, we had the elves (nice cross between Middle Earth and Mercedes Lackey stories, but they didn't have an allergy to caffeine), and other Fae (very much like the ones in Artemis Fowl).
I'm still trying to figure out WHY the hell I was fighting against 'em/trying to capture/kill them. I think it had something to do with my family. Not one hundred percent sure with that. I just remember teaching an older version of my niece, Kayla, to shoot. We were practicing with a BB gun. Oddly, I think she was the only one left in my family...
Within our agency there was a sort of a power shift. My boss was killed and some crazy bitch took over. I dunno what she did or who she was talking to, but I found out that what happened to my family was her fault and not the Fae's. Just as I discovered this my niece hit a bird she had been aiming for. It turned out to be a Fae that had shape shifted. It turned into a small elf like being (think Holly from Artemis Fowl). She was dazed and confused and had bright PINK hair. I helped her, told my niece what I had heard, and carried the still dazed and confuzzled Fae back to the woods.
From there, the woods opened up to us. With Kayla in tow and the Fae telling us where to go, we ventured into the forest. Now, if anyone has read the Obsidian Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey, they would get this. We arrived in a sort of clearing (and believe me, it looked really natural). The elf told us we were at her home. I was confused as hell... then started to notice little random things... like that knot on a tree and the way the vines went around it looked a lot like a door. The sap that had dripped down from another looked oddly like a window...
Yup. We were at her home and taken in by the Sidhe there. The elder actually laughed at me and said it was about time that I realized it.
I'm just glad that they didn't speak like the elves in the Obsidian Trilogy. Talking without ever asking a question because it's rude. That would have driven me nuts, and my dream self was already halfway there.
