Wrapping my head around things

I'm trying to wrap my head around Brandon Sanderson. He is the author selected to complete the Wheel of Time series after the death of Robert Jordan. He's a young guy, the same age as my husband. He plays Halo and posts on forums and newsgroups. He has a Livejournal account.

He's very nice. I've talked with him a bit via email. I'm not sure how much he understands what he's gotten himself into, but he does seem to have the right attitude towards completing another, much more well known author's series. He's a decent writer too. I've read his blog postings and I've started on Mistborn, one of his novels.

I think my strongest emotion towards him right now is a fierce protectiveness. I haven't talked about it much, but after Jim (Jordan's real name) died, I had many reoccuring dreams about him. He was always trying to finish something and he needed my help. It's not difficult to figure what that means. Brandon is the means we have of helping Jim finish his life's work. On one hand, I want to shield him from the internet, from the psychotic fans who show up on his message board to lecture him about how he should finish the series, or complain that as a Mormon, he won't write enough sexy sex for WoT fans. But I also feel a need to assist in introducing him to the WoT fandom, to get him out there, so people will be willing to accept his take on the characters we know and love.

The next year or so will be an interesting ride.

brandon sanderson, robert jordan, things i should really keep to myself
