Project Runway Finale Part II

Okay, the first part of this commentary is below. Below the cut are my two favorite looks.

Char.

Yes, surprisingly, I liked Char's second-best. It had color! A couple of her looks were WTF? such as:

I really like the hemline, but the dress seems to be literally reaching up to choke the model as she walked.

And Char said to hell with Tim and walked the aqua cut-up dress, and Tim was probably right:

Good idea, bad execution.

But there was COLOR!! And OMG, I loved the pattern maxi dress:

I really wish she had started her collection here and kept with that kind of wild pattern with those beautifully clean lines. Instead... stripes?

There's nothing wrong with this look, but I don't get how it fits into the collection.

Again:

I think it could have fit in nicely with the maxi dress, but the black-and-white theme pulls towards that jacket and no one style is really winning. But it's a nice outfit. And then we go white:

Okay, I know people really hated this. I didn't hate it, exactly. It was too much, yeah. Too shiny, too scallop-y, too, too, too. I liked that she had the idea of a wedding dress to end the collection, and I like the bright white and the general style. But yeah, okay, the actual outfit was basically No when you came right down to it.

Okay, yes, Char's collection was nowhere near as pulled together or even designed as well as Amanda's, but I liked some of the individual pieces - such as that maxi dress - and Amanda's collection - except for the ethnic print - left me thinking of cows.

So when I woke this morning and looked up the winner on-line, my own thought on seeing Sean was, "Okay." I have no objection. And looking at the collections again, nothing has changed my mind. Because look at this:

Wowza.

I love orange. And look at this, more orange:

That's a great color and a really pretty design. So, on those two looks alone, I'm willing to give him the win.

The problem is that when Sean came up with "The Murder of Caeser" theme, he was much too literal. The ONLY color in the collection was orange, so it was just white, black, and orange.

It got really monotonous. And then he threw fringe on everything, needlessly. I mean, look at this pretty black outfit:

What the hell is that ratty fringe doing on it?

And this looks like something my cats play with:

The white drape belwo is fine but it's the same design as the orange, only in white (actually, the white came first and the orange was something he whipped up after getting to NYC and was criticized for monotonous fringe - which repeating the below in orange didn't actually solve):

The problem with these is that Sean latched onto the two looks he was rewarded for in the show - that white pajama-style look and the blue fringe thing), and he just mashed them together. They don't mash together.

And don't even get me started on the shoes, which show NO imagination at all, and only add to the monotonous feel of the collection.

But hey, his strategy worked, didn't it? And it's not like he had a terribly high bar to jump over. I'll leave the last look his first to show, because it was nice, and I want to leave things in a nice place:

So, okay, Sean wins, wahoo. I'm currently watching S4 marathoning on the E! network. And watching the judges having the freedom to say what they honestly think instead of carefully choosing their words so they don't reveal how ridiculously un-fashion-y this show has actually become, well, it just makes me sad.

What did you all think?
