My brother John has liked country music for quite some time; at one point I suspected that he might be deliberately cultivating a liking for it simply to annoy me, due to the fact that a majority of the time I cannot stand the musical genre. But sometimes I need to make exceptions for extraordinary circumstances -- such as when John writes a drawling country song in my honor.
Now, I must put in one explanatory note before I post the lyrics of this original work -- as some who know me well are aware, the nickname of mutual affection that John & I have for each other is 'Fool' -- mainly because one Sunday when we were growing up, the church lesson included a citation from Matthew 5:22:
"But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, 'Raca', shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, 'Thou Fool', shall be in danger of hell fire."
I have no idea what the term 'Raca' means; probably something bad. However, once I heard that passage, I immediately started calling John 'Thou Fool' commonly -- so clearly, for all my good works, I am bound for Devil Land once I die. Pray for my soul, and that God has a strong sense of humor.
In any case, now we're ready for the lyrics of John's original song, which he recorded onto my call waiting message. It's a pity that you can't hear these with the tune and John's wailing vocal stylizations. Does anyone know how to transfer phone messages into music files?
The Ballad of the Fool's Geek Romance
Well, I knew this Fool --
She always went her own way.
If the world said "go left",
Then she'd go right.
But she says she's found a boy,
And she isn't being coy
When she says she's found a boy
That sees the light.
Well she's...found a boy
Who likes Harry Potter,
And thinks that knowin' Klingon's
Pretty cool.
An' he even can say who
Is his fav'rite Doctor Who --
Well I think my Fool
Has found another Fool.
*Izzy wipes a tear from her eye*
I think that's even better than John's much-celebrated magnum opus, "I Love Ashley Judd".
*sniff!*
