Today I finished a book Falling in Love with Jesus. It taught me a lot. I will share a few of the things I learned.
1.Being of afraid of change and hard work is no reason for us to not follow Him (God). Will it be hard? YES! Will it be worth it? Oh yeah! Will it take time? Definatly! Kathy wrote "we are as sick as our secrets." Instead of doing things out of wholeness it's done out of our broken nature. "Jesus longs for us to live differently. He longs to set us free." Jesus doesn't promise following Him and making the right choices will be easy but he promises it will be worth it. In Christ, with the Holy Spirit, we have the power to change! We must die to ourself to truly live in Him.
2. This next quote about Mother Teresa ment a lot to me as I stuggle with putting too much importance on apperence. (found on pg 169 of Falling in Love with Jesus. By Brestin and Troccoli, W Publishing Group. 2000)
"She wasn't stopped by criticism or motivated by applause. She only had eyes for Jesus.
...
In walked Mother Teresa, tiny, worn, and wrinkeled. Oh, the glory that emanated from her soul. I was sitting three-fourths of the way back watching and thinking: This woman who gave her life for the gospel is being praised not only by the church but by the press. It's just as the Scripture says, 'Whoever humbles himself will be exalted.' Her abandoned life to Christ has given them something to talk about. Mother Teresa spread His fragrance to the world. Was it Giorgio? Givenchy? Estee Lauder? No-it was Jesus. Jesus was so evident in her, His life so undeniable in her."
3. Last (of what I will write about anyways) is that I again was reminded that the thing that marks is Christianity is Love. Not our political stances or denomintations, or work. Its not the mark of race, sex, orientation, ethnicity, but LOVE! On page 189 it says: "Francis Shaeffer explained in The Mark of a Christian that if we really love each other, the world is drawn to Christ. But if we don't, the world just dismisses us as just another club...It's the mark because God is Love." 1 John 4:16b says: "God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God and God in him."
Its a good book, I recomend it. It has a great message for guys and girls but saddly it is written only for Women.
Peace and Love, Kimmy
