I don't normally post about my dreams, but my dream last night was really quite disturbing, and I think I need to share.

I'd spent most of the night with our protagonist, a hero type, having lots of bold and daring adventures. We come to the end (the morning for me), and our hero is sitting around a table having dinner with his wife and his friends.

In one of the earlier adventures an evil wizard (or something like that - I can't quite remember the details) had caused his friends to have a spike growing inside their chests. Our hero had saved the day, and (with the help of an old enemy with whom our hero had reconciled) managed to 'pause' it. But now, as they sat having a celebratory feast, the spike began to grow again inside the chests of his friends.

Our hero realised at that moment that the old enemy had betrayed him, that he had borne a grudge from their previous encounters, and carefully manipulated him. The old enemy had deliberately sought him out for revenge. He remembered, his heart breaking, that his wife had died some time ago - her resurrection had been an illusion, and he looked over to where she had been sitting, and there was no-one there. His friends were screaming now, and there was nothing he could do but watch. In a short while, everything he had would be gone.

Then the alarm went off.

It was pretty brutal, and wasn't really the start I wanted to an already sleep-deprived morning after a late and difficult evening. The entire dream was quite cinematic - I watched the hero having all of these adventures. But, in the final plot twist I became the hero, and really felt his anguish.

I'm normally fairly good at interpreting my dreams, but I really have no idea on this. If you have any thoughts or ideas, I'd be interested to hear them.

I'm screening comments (will probably approve them, it's just for a modicum of privacy), but I'm allowing anonymous comments - so feel free to say what you like :)
