A quiet moment

The vacation so far has been amazing. I thought Seattle had good food but I had NO IDEA what Portland could do with food. And how much of it there is to choose from. Portlanders love to eat!

Yesterday Joel and I went to the zoo with Chase, who will probably end up reading this at some point, but I feel the need to express how much I like this person. I really wish we lived nearer to each other.

Then we went to a vegan restaurant that was super yum, and to a food cart for deep-fried handpies afterward. I got confused about a revolving door and squished into it with Chase and his lady and it was very awkward.

Today we went to Kenny and Zukes, which had tasty pastrami, but it was apparently pastrami of doom, as Joel and I squabbled all afternoon for no good reason. I usually bounce back from slights and annoyances pretty quickly, but Joel carries them around FOREVER AND WON'T LET IT DROP. He is currently sleep-sulking in the bed while I type.

He put on a brave face for Beast though, a six course fixed menu restaurant with communal seating. We got very cozy with the six other people at our table, even going so far as to drink the wine that the girl next to me offered from her glass. Thanks, random Portland lady! You were super nice.

Then we biked back to downtown from the Alberta neighborhood (which is super cute), Joel when back to the hotel to sulk and I went to Powell's to get something to read while he sulked. We went earlier this week for books but decided to ship everything back, but now I have Pelevin's debut work, some more Robbins and a new author I'd never heard before.

Tomorrow: Hawthorne neighborhood. Maybe Joel will be done sulking by then?

Keep thinking about how much my life is about to change when I get back. I don't even know how much.

See you in a few days, Seattle. Try not to wreck the place while I'm gone.
