Is it Possible?

Holy poop. Yeh, I know. I have neglected LiveJournal for like MONTHS-- I actually found a draft of an entry I never finished-- from last October. Writing about Richard going to Toyoko and then for his 'summer' in NZ. I was distracted from LJ long before that with SpaceBook, or MyFace or whatever-- and a slamming year on DeviantArt which I haven't visited in months, either. Not that there hasn't been anything going on in my life.

I am now officially curator of the Thomas Warne Museum, which is a PT position. Haven't painted in ages, because last May I destroyed my art room/studio in prep for a fab weekend away at the Steampunk World's Fair and the room has yet to be sorted out. Dad has been hospitalized several times, and from Dec. 9 to Jan 9 he was in for heart troubles, and back again March 1st for BP problems, which have now graduated to 'if you don't have a valve replacement, you'll die in the hospital'. Lovely. He's now in a SUPER state of the art hospital, in surgical ICU pending that surgery. And at 88 years old. They are willing to do it on him because he has no other outstanding medical problems and his mind is super sharp. Fingers crossed and prayers requested!

This hospital of which I speak is INCREDIBLE. Robert Wood Johnson (of Johnson and Johnson fame)-- what a place!! The lobby is huge-- with a lounge area, sofas, working fireplace and a baby grand piano with a guy playing it. Get a visitor pass at the desk ONLY after you show photo ID, and then you pass a gift shop bigger than my house, and have to be buzzed into ICU after you are checked out by cameras. The medical care is excellent and the menu my dad has in his room is better than a room service menu in a high class hotel. The breakfast portion has fruits, yogurts, build your own omelets, hot cereals, cold cereals, pancakes, waffles--- It lists soups, salads, appetizers, pizza and pasta selections, chef's suggestions, snacks and a list of desserts as long as your arm. SIGN ME UP FOR SURGERY!!

In the time since I last wrote, we have also been given a car by my sister, dad naturally had to stop working, we had a few storms, including lotsa snow this year and too much wind last year. Dave and I have had many adventures, his gram's been in the hospital since the week before Christmas, I've finished my Victorian sci-fi novel, and we had a fire in the basement. And just last Friday, a ton of stuff dropped in my lap-- such as---

Got the word I am doing a display for the museum at the public library for the month of April-- not one showcase but all five. Got a frantic email from Richard in the morning and was asked to rush in and do several things for him regarding a Rocky convention he wanted to have boycotted-- AND got a summons in the mail for a court appearance-- apparently I am being sued by an inmate in a Nevada prison. Erroneously filed, I'm being accused of selling his property and owing him $1000-- I will show up in court with ALL of his stuff and hand it to whoever is there to represent him. Weird story which I cannot wait to have end. He'll likely get nailed for filing a fake claim, and at least be charged court fees. AND may never see his stuff again, anyway, unless someone from Neveda is there to take it back.

The Richard vs Rocky convention saga may not be over. It made him furious that a porn version of RH was being shown at the venue plus the makers never had permission from him to use his story, characters, music, etc. Mayhem ensued for the event organizers, as I had to contact them with word of Richard's affront-- and that his requests to stop had been ignored. He wanted me to put out the word to boycott the event entirely, and after a few letters to fans in high places, I was able to garner alot of support and additional info. The organizers then broke ties with the porn company at a loss-- the porn folks were event sponsors. However, I do not know if the film will be shown anyway, even though removed from the posted online schedule.

I THOUGHT that was the end of it, BUT Richard realized-- they intended to publickly read and perform an unpublished script of his, also without permission. AND even though they apparently had permission to air "An Evening with Richard O'Brien", the producer, on hearing Richard's tale, has pulled her consent. There is even talk that Fox Films may reneg on their agreement to let the film be aired. That's all MORE than I expected, but this morning's note from Richard pretty much spelled it out. What a horrible situation to have to deal with, and yes people will be severely hurt financially and fans will be greatly disappointed. But if Rocky is as loved, and Richard is as respected and admired as they say, it's hard to see how such things can happen. I support Richard 100% in the matter. The rights of the creator in any case must be respected.

So now it's time to chill. Wait for dad to have his surgery in the next few days and to get back to art, eBay and the museum. Wow, this is some ton of an entry. Bet you're glad I don't post so often. Cheers!
