Manga, we loves it.

Today's Saiyuki statement: HAKKAI FUCK YEAH. Probably more later.

I have the second volume of Kyou Kara Maoh! Where Gwendal HEROICALLY SAVES A KITTEN and is compared to a Godfather character. And Yozak is there, mostly naked and with very few lines! We get to meet him properly next volume, I assume. The manga is way more Conrad/Yuuri-y than the anime. I am choosing to JUST IGNORE IT JESUS CHRIST CONRAD.

More reason for people to complain about official translations: In the "meet the characters" page, most of the captions are completely fuxxored. It's actually pretty funny.

Anyway! It got me thinking a little bit, because Yuuri goes off on his 'MY NATION ONLY USES DEFENSE' speech and I, as always, start giggling, because YEAH, HISTORY OF JAPAN here, but that's not really fair to Yuuri. Because he's grown up in a world where that is how Japan works, and has worked for many years and my country's been at war for years now and it's interesting to think that Yuuri just has...no experience of that. One of my friends from the former Yugoslavia was saying it makes her sad that kids now will literally grow up not knowing the country she grew up in. And this is, I guess, the positive side of that, that Yuuri has grown up differently. And I assume that-- light comic work that this is, it's not written in a vacuum-- the author was thinking of that when she created Yuuri.

Temari Matsumoto, the mangaka, says she likes drawing Gunter best. She keeps doing awesome things with his hair that crack me up.

There's a somewhat awkard but cute prose story at the end about the boys on the cruise ship. Wolfram, as always, gets the best line.

Edited a bit because really, I can spell, and I thought one point wasn't clear.
