There's a lot of good films on there you haven't seen, but if I had to pick just one from the hundreds, I would say The Third Man. It's a late 40s film that is still a brilliant work today - not just for its time, but for any time.
(Also you need to watch more witty romantic comedy - The Philadelphia Story, His Girl Friday, Roman Holiday and such are seriously good fun)
A ton of the 30-40's ones are on my Netflix queue. (I've seen half of The Philadelphia Story, but still haven't managed to catch the whole thing!)
My parents would only watch comedies in the early days of our video rental, so when I started choosing my own movies I watched...pretty much anything that was not a comedy. (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Some Like It Hot count!)
Ah ha, which ones? If I did this list I would have a huge block of boldface ranging from the silents up through the 40s, I can perhaps chime in with suggestions for what should get bumped up higher on the list. (And if it's not on your list already and you're not allergic to silent films, everyone MUST see Pandora's Box -- I do not have enough words to describe the amazingness of Louise Brooks.)
Your list makes me feel somewhat less like an utter and complete alien, and I am grateful. I think I've seen fewer of these than you have, and we don't overlap very often; but it's still comforting to know I'm not the only person who hasn't seen the vast majority of these movies.
If I were to do it, I'd need to add a marker for 'things I tried to watch, but got bored and wandered away from long before they were over.' It's a little scary how many of those there are, especially when you consider how small the set of things I've seen any part of is. Thank God for DVDs, is all I can say. If I had to go somewhere that I couldn't get out of easily to see films, I would probably never see any at all.

JFK would've ended up on that list, but I only had one channel and needed background noise while I was working on a paper. I actually see more movies now I have DVDs/Netflix.
I'm surprised but pleased to see Strange Days on the list.
I can totally understand you mistaking Top Gun for Hot Shots!
I mainly remember Bram Stoker's Dracula for its ridiculousness but also for having some scenes I found surprisingly hot: the scene with Dracula shaving Harker and one where Harker first meets up with the brides. It was somewhat shocking to me because this was Keanu Reeves we're talking. *g*
I shall check this out! I haven't seen the whole movie, but was v. disappointed at the lack of similar overtones between Rickman and Depp in Sweeney Todd (threatening, hells yes, erotic... fail). FFS, THE WHOLE MOVIE IS ABOUT SHAVING/MURDER. GIVE THE FANGIRLS WHAT THEY WANT.
