xxxHolic is making me cry. Dammit.

Should I check out the manga? I have enjoyed the anime so far, but am suspicious of CLAMP's tendency toward chaos.

Also, LJ was a jerk and wouldn't let me list off 100 female characters I absolutely freakin' love, so it's over on DW.

The manga starts slow, but is pretty much the sole reason I got into Clamp. I haven't seen the anie, though, so I can't compare them.

I was doing so well, and then it was on Hulu, and I thought, "oh, I'll just check out an episode or two," and now I'm finishing the first season. OOPS.

I liked xxxHolic a lot and it's definitely as touching as the anime, but it starts crossing over heavily with Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle at points (like, "you need to be reading both series to understand what is going on" crossover-level) so that might count as 'tendency toward chaos'? I don't dislike Tsubasa, but I was a lot more interested in xxxHolic, so it annoyed me a little and made me drift away from the series.

I confess, that is part of the 'drifting toward chaos' thing I worry about, next to 'is there ever going to be any resolution, much less one that won't make me want to cry?'

I'm enjoying xxxHolic quite a lot, and ignoring the crossover stuff. I suppose I may read Tsubasa someday ... .

I was watching the first anime series, so you probably know, it was (VAGUE SPOILERS AHOY) when Doumeki has to save Watanuki from himself and aaaaaaagh SO SAD AND SO SWEET.

Actually I don't because I've read Four of the manga volumes and watched none of the anime.

Ah. It was REALLY TOUCHING anyway.

EDIT: I realize this is not answering the what's been going on question at all. It's been pretty episodic, and then there's a small arc where Watanuki makes a lovely connection with someone and then loses them, but realizes he has other people around him who care about him.
