I've been instructed to make this last one 'epic', so it's behind all the cuts:
Total Days: 32
Total Number of (whole) Albums: 65
Whole albums I've liked: About 41
Total Number of single album-less songs: 154
Total Number of single songs I've liked: 74
First song: When I'm Gone, 3 Doors Down, Away From The Sun
Last song: I Will Get There, Boys II Men, The Prince of Egypt (Soundtrack)
What I've Learnt: (Songs 1-1111)
- You don't have to just listen to your playlists to enjoy music. There is definitely merit in listening to whole albums from the start to the end, not just picking out songs.
- There is a major difference to listening to music you actually like, and music you can tolerate. While the tolerable stuff is OK, the good music can make you happy, or feel better about something, to a surprisingly high degree.
- Music that you can't stand, on the other hand, is a different kettle of fish completely...
- Some songs can be painfully nostalgic. Just listening to certain songs - or just their intro or bass line for that matter - can bring back memories of completely random things. One song made me remember dancing around with a friend who I'm not really that close too anymore, another one put me in mind of playing Mario World 2 on my Game Boy, and another made me remember a discussion I had (in more innocent days) about swearing and censorship.
- And while some songs are nostalgic, there are some that belong in the past for a reason. ie I should have never ripped that Top of the Pops 2002 CD off my friend. *shudder*
- I can be horribly stupid. While I didn't tell any of you, since the first restart that I talked about on my journal I managed to reset the shuffle twice. I know I got all the songs though. But it would have been a lot smarter to not actually shuffle through it, but just play the 'all' list in the albums menu. At least then I would have been able to see where I was up to if I restarted.
- I am actually quite a dedicated person when I put my mind to it. Counting from when I first started doing this, (ie the first and second time around) it's been about two months since I actually chose what to listen to on miPod.
- The percentage of music that I actually like on miPod - 53% - is surprisingly small. (Yes, I figured that out. Yes, I am a maths nut. Give me some leeway, I did four unit maths for year 12.)
- A lot of the albums I like on miPid are soundtracks. I think this is because the songs on soundtracks are picked really carefully, and so are usually good.
- Looking at my list of songs I like, I know how to describe my music tastes now - I like pop. But not just pure pop, a la Britney Spears etc, but pop versions of other genres too. Eg I don't particularly like R&B, but I like The Black Eyed Peas and Destiny's Child because they're pop-R&B. And I don't particularly like rock but I like blink and Greenday and Linkin Park because they're pop-rock.

So now, I'm free! Yay I get to listen to whatever I want! And I will be listening to more whole albums, and now I have some new ones that I didn't know I liked before. So yes, it was worth it. :D Feel free to comment and tell me how good/completely crap/extremely random my musical taste is! I'd love to know what you agree with on my love/hate lists, as I'm a curious person.
Hope you enjoyed the ride as much as I did, now I'm going to have to actually think of what to put in my journal -
