30 Day Music Meme Days 11 - 15
I'm behind in my meme again... That's what happens when you go to a music festival on the weekend and come back to a pile of work just waiting for you. So. Let's roll.
Day 11 - A song from your favorite band
Yes, you may notice that Porcupine Tree somewhat saturates my musical market... Can I help it they're so wonderful? Anyway, I love this song a whole lot. It tends to be the first one I make people listen to when they're interested in PT. So if you've managed to avoid it so far, here's your chance to actually listen to it. Just do it. Pause whatever music you've got playing now, and hit that play button. Go. Now. It'll only be four minutes, then you can pretend you never listened to it and go back to your own stuff again.
Day 12 - A song from a band you hate
I really, really, really don't like The Foo Fighters. To me, they're just an impenetrable wall of noise with a vocal track that sounds like the lead singer gargled aquarium gravel before performing. This song was also jostling for the Your Least Favourite Song spot, because it also plagued my days when I listened to the radio. Good times. NOT.
Day 13 - A song that is a guilty pleasure
Nuff said, really. xD This song is just so repetitive, cheesy and annoying I can't help but like it. It probably helps that I have some pretty good memories attached to it, first and foremost the weekend of the Armageddon Expo '08 which involved a mass cosplayer Caramelldansen dance party outside the convention centre. It was awesome.
Day 14 - A song that no one would expect you to love
...Cue my entire taste in music? Most people have me pegged as a nanna when it comes to music, so when I break out the Dream Theater and the Opeth, the eyebrows shoot waaay up. But here's a new one that surprises even me:
Normally, I hate anything that sounds like the lead singer needs a throat lozenge - note my comment on The Foo Fighters. But for some reason, it doesn't bother me anywhere near as much when this band does it and I love their energy.
Day 15 - A song that describes you
Well, it doesn't describe me per se, but let me explain. This song contains a lot of life messages and general philosophies I hold very close to my heart. Just listen to the lyrics - you'll see what I mean. I believe you get out of life exactly what you put in, and you are driven ultimately by what's inside you. I try to stay positive, try not to judge myself or others too harshly, and pick myself up when I fall. The lyrics in particular that remind me of myself, and this might come across as slightly egotistical, are:
You've got the future on your side, you're going to be fine now.
I know whatever you decide, you're going to shine.
Yeah. However, this is because I've just finished studying and it feels like things are finally getting moving for me. I may not know exactly what shape things are going to take, but does that really matter? As long as I'm happy, I'll "shine". I've never been one to base success on wealth or status...
