Back-to-School Jitters... not just for the kiddies!

Sep 03, 2007 12:20

It has started -- my annual bout of restless sleep and stomachaches that lasts roughly until the second week of school.

Now, understand that I am the last person to ever experience difficulty sleeping.  Before my son was born, I was a big fan of the afternoon siesta, and rarely failed to sleep through the night, despite the anxieties or issues of my waking life.  He's even a good sleeper, and other than if he was teething or not feeling well, he's slept more or less through the night since he was about 2 months old.

The first week of September, all bets are off.

I have trouble falling asleep, wake up frequently, and have disturbing dreams.  So about 4a.m., I woke up from a horrible dream in which one of my favorite former students -- a brilliant, wise-assed redhead whose name I wanted to grace my own son with -- had been killed in an accident.  And when I finally managed to go back to sleep, the dream continued.

Then there are the horrible stomachaches that mar my mornings... exacerbated by nerves over traffic and getting out the door and to work on time.  Absolutely sick.

Keep a good thought.... I'll need all the happy thoughts and pixie dust you can spare.

rant, school
