HAPPY FOURTH!
Happy Fourth of July!!
This is the day when we Americans (the smucks that we are) celebrate the independance of our country by shooting up rockets full of chemicals and causing brightly colored explosions. This is the day we are to remember, and honor the sacrifices of our predecessors, those who have made effort to keep us free. Who have made this country a safe haven for exiles and refugees. For today, let us forget our sorrows and our wrongs, and remember and embrace that which is good about this country.
We are Americans.
We are free.
I am the daughter of an immigrant, and this is the one day of the year I will remember and thank this country for giving my father and his parents safe haven, giving them shelter from the storm, and safety from the fear. It is because of this country that I live, because America is willing to take the frightened and the persecuted that my family exists.
It is because of this country that I can have an education, that I am expected to have an education and support myself. Perhaps America has not done every good thing in the last two hundred years, but the hand of this country has given a great many things a helping boost.
Today, I offer thanks for the vision of the Founders, for whose generation, for whose era I owe greatest thanks, for shaping this land that this day is my safety, this day is my strength, this day is my life.
Happy Fourth of July. Remember your Freedom.
Remember to practice safe useage of fireworks, though. You don't want to blow a hand off, or catch things on fire.
We are also drowning in a thunderstorm, so there will be no fireworks at my house tonight.
PS- Hey, Liz... how much you wanna bet that the screeching tires of earlier will impact something on their way along three point two miles of curvy and hilly road?
